Anyway, National's new shoplifting law is a reminder that if you see someone stealing food or other essentials in the supermarket, no you didn't.

And their attitude - smash stuff under urgency, because we won't be in charge anymore - just highlights the need for an #OmnibusRepealBill to undo the damage.

Nothing this illegitimate regime has done can be allowed to stand. Revert it all on day one.

Now, don't ask 'where will we find the money', Govt creates $ with votes. Ask instead, where will we find the resources? Do we need fewer people doing bullshit jobs and more well-trained kiwis teaching and doctoring? Well, put up wages and design some taxes to rebalance the economy ffs! [Ends]

There are at least 3x the number of people in those three buses than in the cars you can see on the motorway this morning.

This is why I fight for more public transport, more dedicated bus lanes, trains, ferries and hopefully one day light rail, even to the shore! It’s more efficient for everyone.

Charlie Kirk was an absolute cunt and the world is a better place without him.

I'm not saying that he deserved it, but I'm not the slightest bit upset that he's dead either

I'm not a spokesman for anything but all these things are true:

1) Political violence is 100% wrong, no matter who the victim is.
2) This will undoubtedly be used by the govt as justification to hurt lots of other people and further curtail our rights.
3) I won't miss him but I don't wish him dead.

Worth noting that the government actually has the power to require Fonterra to supply any dairy product in NZ, and to set the price at which it supplies it www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/2...

being bad at risk assessment combined with normalcy bias is how you get people freaking out about battery fires but never second-guessing that whole "endless supply of explosive gas" thing.

Some confusion today about the 'better than expected' unemployment rate. Few things going on.
Firstly, the unemployment rate came in exactly as RBNZ predicted (5.2%). However, Treasury guessed 5.4% back in May and a few of the bank reckonomists reckoned at 5.3% in the last couple of weeks. [🧵 1/n]

Hopefully my only budget commentary: The government doesn't "find savings." It's not a household or a local council. A sovereign nation literally makes its own money; it can have as much of it as it likes. When journalists say the government has "found savings" they are perpetuating a lie.

Quick Dec 24 balance sheet update. Banks still owe the rest of us around $420bn in lovely NZ dollars (net). The cash in our bank accounts is an asset for us, but a liability (debt) for the banks. Don't try and take it out all at once! 😨 [🧵 1/n]

First, let's tackle the issue the ghouls focus on: Govt's 'crippling debt servicing costs'.
What do you see? Yes, it's a nothing story. *Net* Govt interest paid was about $1bn in 2024 [1/n]
