Dear international colleagues in Denmark.

Remember that many of you can also vote in the upcoming election the 18th of November.

I don't care what you vote, but please consider voting 💚
This election is also yours #dkpol

1/3 To those interested in microbial iron & metal transport: In 1992, the late JB Neilands (UCB), the pioneer in the study of Fe transport entrusted me with his collection of purified siderophores from a wide range of microbes—many of them unique chemical species that can no longer be reproduced

Bacteria in hot springs can move against fast water flow without flagella. Instead, they use pili like grappling hooks to crawl upstream, revealing a surprising survival strategy in extreme environments.

1/3 Today is #worldorangutanday so here some pictures of these magnificent great apes from when we visited Borneo/Kalimantan in 2018. Orangutan means 'people of the forest' (orang=person; hutan=forest), and this critically endangered species is one of humans closest relatives.

Harvard today, your institution tomorrow.

It's all part of the Project 2025 plan to destroy high education in America.

All leading US universities depend on federal funding and tuition dollars from international students. They severely curtailed the former. Now they're eliminating the latter.

We discovered a tiny archaeon with the smallest known archaeal genome — only 238 kbp!
Candidatus Sukunaarchaeum mirabile has almost no recognizable metabolic pathways and may rely heavily on a host to survive.
It also represents a novel, deep-branching lineage in the archaeal tree.
