Another destructive Himalayan flood, this time transboundary. And like most of these, we can see the seismic signals created by the flood at a DMG station near Kathmandu. The flood is visible seismically about an hour before it arrived at the Nepali border...

The emergence of extreme wintertime wildfires in California is one of those classic “this is climate change” moments: A specific set of weather conditions is now occurring in such a way to produce the potential for rare disasters to become much more common.

This report is an eye opener on exploitation of indigenous community and land through an abstract concept of carbon offset, “a new form of colonialism.”
🌳 In 2011, the Ugamaa Community Resource Team helped the Hadzabe to secure land rights for part of their territory.

🔥 With support from The Nature Conservancy.

💲 In 2012, Carbon Tanzania set up a REDD project on the Hadzabe's land.

👇 racism kills in healthcare. E.g the MBRACE report 2019-2021: there was nearly 4 fold difference in maternal mortality rates amongst women from Black ethnic backgrounds & ~2 fold difference amongst women from Asian ethnic backgrounds compared to white women. These differences have persisted
Racism, systemic or otherwise, has consequences. Implicit bias, lack of knowledge, assumptions. Terrible.
A woman’s leg was just amputated in an academic tertiary care centre because of racism. I didn’t have time to intervene because she was referred to me on a Friday afternoon and by Sunday night it was already done. I know based on clinical evidence her wound would have healed. What to do?
