Fun fact!

15 years on from Deepwater Horizion, BP still refers to money it makes for shareholders as "replacement cost profit", which represents the amount of money there *would be* if they weren't paying off $62 bn in fines for one of the worst ecological disasters ever

Remain eternally angry that AT LEAST six years ago I started pitching multiple editors about a looming insurance crisis in California and was told it wasn't a real story, or if it was it would affect a small number of people, and even if then, it would be a negligible policy issue.

I want to watch TV coverage of the live fall of the Syrian regime.

CNN is airing a Giuliani documentary, Fox News has a comedian joking about Canada, MSNBC a documentary about migrants

So I turned on BBC,which is breathlessly switching between Syria, South Korea demonstrations, and Ghana election

Last year UnitedHealth fired its intake team & used AI to process claims. The AI rejected more than 90% of claims for senior citizens, resulting in several preventable deaths.

Many commentators say that vigilante groups are never the answer. But they clearly don't know about the masked Ecuadorian trio named “Acción Ortográfica Quito,” who roam the streets at night with a singular purpose: to correct all the spelling and grammar mistakes they find in graffiti.

Looks like Democrats will end up ~7500 votes short of winning the House majority across three districts. That's the difference between having the power of the purse, subpoenas etc — or not — in a nation of 330+ million.

The United States now has:

• 275,550 public relations specialists

For every reporter, there are now six PR people.

I've been studying AI image spam on Facebook for about a year now, and I thought I was being ridiculous and paranoid for thinking that Meta was trying to replace genuine social interaction with AI sludge.

Sometimes one's worst suspicions are correct, however, and Zuckerburg just confirmed mine.
Exciting news: Mark Zuckerberg confirms AI spam is part of the strategy, more is coming, and Instagram & FB will become even less about your friends and who you interact with and more about shoving AI slop into every corner of every product

Why is this surprising? The wires have specialized in accurate reporting for decades. I’ll take AP over NYT any day.
Incredible how the fucking wire services at AP can write a better summary of the Trump rally than New York Times political reporters:
