This is fucking grim. Somebody invented a white guy, an "IT professional" named Edward Crabtree, who stopped the Bondi shooting and spread it all over the internet, which was picked up by AI agents and slop aggregation sites.

The real hero is a fruit stand owner named Ahmed el Ahmed.

What does it mean, if the national equality body aggressively pursues discrimination; if the energy regulator rubber-stamps huge price hikes; if the water authority does nothing about shit in the rivers and the press regulator occasionally ticks off a newspaper? What is the purpose of “regulation”.
I was concerned that Dr Mary-Ann Stephenson might try and be smarter about transphobia than her predecessors and leave trans people in a shit place than was harder to rectify because it wasn’t so obvious.

Today dispelled those worries.

Labour have appointed a second raving bigot to run the EHRC.

Why we need to tax the super rich more.

Their wealth is growing MUCH faster than everyone else's.

And they're using it to outbid you for real resources: housing, assets, healthcare, education and everything else of real value.

At the core of it all, though: we’ve had near two decades of politicians and media screaming at us that even having what we had in 2007 is an impossible fantasy that has to be destroyed, or creating inflammatory distractions, and that is why (points at everything on fire and sliding into the sea)
Richard Madeley "How realistic is it for any profession to expect to be paid in real terms what they were paid in 2008?"

The UK is the 6th largest economy in the world & the rich have never been richer, but Madeley thinks the rest of us should just accept being poorer #GMB

I reckon our ruling class going in a few short years from 1) Screaming in united petrified terror at Facebook likes and protestors’ placards as harbingers of extermination, to 2) LOL come on, everyone has a Hitlerian phase, shows you they do not at all fear the public or even seek our good opinion.

Elon Musk is worse at hiding it but this is the problem with all billionaires: they are a threat to democratic governance. They have an insatiable need to own and control everything. If you want to be free you have to curb their power, and demand political leaders who understand that

Farage was recruited as a useful figurehead for all kinds of idiotic outrage stories, and to aggressively troll the Tories from the right: a helpful tool that could be puffed up or tamped down, as required. He was never meant to be PM and he has overstepped the mark by trying.

It’s obviously very funny seeing Farage lose his shit when given any journalistic attention short of doe-eyed adulation.

It’s also impossible not to despair at the thought of how different his career- & therefore recent UK history- would’ve been with the mildest media scrutiny a few years ago.

A prime example of how the far right can never be appeased. Give them whatever they demand and they’ll bank it, then use it as a new base camp to strike out for more and worse.

Imagine you have a choice between doing simple, popular things that will see your popularity soar but lead to bad headlines or between milquetoast technical tweaks that win no support but also lead to bad headlines. Imagine you could implement a popular Inquiry recommendation to regulate the press.
How the right-wing newspapers still manage to dictate BBC coverage.

Almost all of the Beeb's big post-Budget interview with the Chancellor devoted to asking whether she is a liar.

Next to nothing on any of the big measures announced this week

Like, the reason why nobody is shouting “How were the likes of Johnson and Cummings put in a position to inflict this criminal harm upon the public” is that everybody knows what the answer is, and talking about it where the public can hear helps nobody who really matters.

Austerity is an excellent comparison: an obviously calamitous policy forced through by a unified political/media class, collaborating on campaigns of idiotic lying and monstering fuck out of opponents. And now the damage is done, it is like it never happened and nobody ever did anything wrong.
