I had to explain this last month. People will do illegal things if they know they can get away with it. It's like why landlords do illegal evictions because they're banking on someone not being able to acquire a lawyer in a timely manner. Sure it's illegal but it doesn't stop crimes

Between X and almost all of the legacy media, it sure seems like the bet that you can simply buy up a media source and replace it with an openly white supremacist and pro-fascist version of the source and very few people will blink or change their media consumption habits was a good one.

The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.
