What they really mean is "Pointing out the film's real-world harm and also poking holes in our defense that it was a pioneering work of art makes us uncomfortable and that should be illegal."

But that's saying the quiet part out loud, so they turn to wilder accusations.

Sneak Previews, December 1978:

Gene: What I would wish for is better holiday movies next year. This year‘s crop was pretty bad

Roger: You’re right, Gene. There were four or five good pictures. The rest were disappointing. It’s been a bad Christmas season for the movies.

Watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes yesterday, which gave me the idea for a niche movie list.
Sticks together strong
Movies that include a scene where someone literally demonstrates a version of the Aesop fable "The Old Man and his Sons," aka "The Bundle of Sticks."

The order of the opening credits in Community is a fascinating time capsule given everyone’s career since the show came out.

This Christmas, you will be visited by three ghosts. One of them will be the blowjob ghost from GHOSTBUSTERS but the other two? Terrifying.

On the eve of one of the most etiquettey of holidays, I confess that I've wondered if getting certification as an etiquette consultant would offer an interesting spin to my content/UX work.

(Probably the kind of thing I should be saying on LinkedIn for those precious metrics.)

Train Dreams has a ratio of voiceover-compared-to-lines-spoken-by-main-character that might just outdo The Man Who Wasn't There.

Wonder how their year's been going.

Michael Mann's FAJIT
NINE YEAR FAJITA HEIST

(technically nine year fajita fraud scheme but I'm counting this as a heist because it's funny enough)
I remember seeing a story years ago where a prison cook was caught having stolen $1.2 million of fajitas over 9 years.

One week he took off sick, someone else answered the order call and was like "what are you talking about? We don't serve fajitas."

Our long national nightmare is over.
Several years ago, the Stylebook advised that you heat your oven, because "preheat" is redundant.
That might be true linguistically, but we heard you. Common usage in cookbooks calls for preheating.

Wild to check out the Gen X subreddit and see posts from people who reached their 50s and basically declare, "Well, I'm tired of everything. Can't wait to die!"

(Many of these people insist that they're not depressed, just realistic.)

I find it odd that the Hollywood Theatre here in Portland got theatrical releases for Jay Kelly, Train Dreams, and Frankenstein, but they're not showing Wake Up, Dead Man. I'll be headed to the Laurelhurst for that one.

(True enough in the sense that I don't think of myself as having "an audience" on LinkedIn, I guess.)
