Y'all, @pronounced-ing.bsky.social clued me in to Common Cause's awesome find your reps tool - which shows you phone numbers for ALL your reps, including local politicians!

To make it SUPER EASY to find the tool, I registered reps.fyi & made it point to the site - feel free to share it!

Authors! Let’s start a chain of posts of your FIRST published book. “Quote post” the cover, a link, and three words about it. Here is mine.

My philosophy exactly. I'm trying to be smart and strategic about how I expend my energy.
This is what I’ve been talking about, trying to be thoughtful about when to be outraged. It’s going to be a very long and very dark four years. Sometimes letting republicans fight with each other is going to be the only way.

These are some great tips for writing alt text that have been shared around a lot.

You don’t have to be great at it, though! Just start trying. Like anything else it gets easier with time.

And this is why authors are always asking you to preorder.
When I was a buyer at a large indie, my rule of thumb was:

1 preorder: huh, let me take a closer look at this one
2 preorders: we need to stock this book
3 preorders: we should order enough to face this out
4+ preorders: this should be on front-of-store display
More detail: When booksellers get pre-orders, it's a quantitative and qualitative signal that there is like *something here* about a book. The avalanche of new books out there is hard to communicate if you're not in the industry, and pre-orders are one of vanishingly few signals. It is a real thing!

Okay, one more random tip for newbies: if someone quote-skeets (yes, they're called skeets, shut up) you in a way to dunk on your or annoy you, you can "detach" your skeet from the quote, so that it no longer shows.

This is also useful in ending brigading attacks.

YA authors, who's here? I feel like I'm completely rebuilding my community, partly due to life and a lot due to social media exhaustion. Would love to re-connect or find new author friends. Right now I'm shouting into the void, but if you see this, chime in!

It's my birthday. I've been under the weather and blah but... today I'm going to put on a cute outfit and do a work call and go out for Indian food with my husband and kid. If the Universe could see fit to send good news about my book on sub, that would be an amazing way to put icing on the cake.

Hi! I’m new! I dumped Twitter (can’t ever seem to call it that letter name) for something better and am looking forward to creating a new community, making new friends, all that good stuff. I’m an author with a book on sub, a ballet nerd and, I like to think, a nice person. So… hi!
