This is so far into virulent racism, there can be no normalization of this. For a long time, people have said we're on the road to a new Nazi regime. Well, here we are. If you were ever planning to fight violent fascism, the time is now.
Trump: “I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries … denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.“

How Republicans commemorated Thanksgiving in 1869--with a multi-racial/multi-ethnic gathering of people at a table with a centerpiece celebrating universal suffrage and self-government, and with an engraving of Castle Garden, the pre-Ellis Island point of disembarkation for immigrants.

This is so deeply at odds with the vision and history of America. Take pretty much any ethnic or racial group that are part of the American mosaic America today - they have all faced the same accusation. The moment these accusations are turned into policy are some of the most shameful in US history

In fact the Declaration of Independence specifically charges the King with "endeavour[ing] to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; [and] refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither."
I know it’s too much to expect them to know their history, but if the American Revolution had a motto, it definitely would not have been “immigrants go home.”

It would have been “get your fucking soldiers out of our cities.”
America... boy, I dunno.

if we made immigration work how people think it works that would be the biggest liberalization of immigration in American history
Thinking on this point and there really is maybe a golden opportunity in the near future to make immigration radically simpler. Clear out the queues, make green cards easier, etc. Public opinion is sort of pro immigration right now and it might only go up
3. However, this leads to centering punishing ICE rather than helping immigrants (through regularization of status, increasing visa quotas, etc.). There are viral posts here about the need to prosecute ICE members after Trump leaves office. There aren't any about giving immigrants green cards.

I started my legal career as a farmworker attorney. These jobs are incredibly difficult -- both hard on the body and requiring skill and know-how. Pay is low, wage theft is rife, benefits are nonexistent, and work is seasonal. It is always, always the most vulnerable who take these jobs.
Brooke Rollins on farm laborers: "There will be no amnesty. The mass deportations continue, but in a strategic way. And we move the workforce toward automation and 100% American participation, which with 34 million able-bodied on Medicaid we should be able to do fairly quickly."

From "alien enemies" to the "enemy within," it's the fascist two-step.
Trump calls for deporting US citizens: "We also have a lot of bad people that have been here for a long time ... many of them were born in our country. I think we ought to get them the hell out of here too, if you want to know the truth. So maybe that'll be the next job."

The publicized crackdown on organized crime (sending supposed gang members to indefinite extralegal detention in El Salvador) is actually facilitating organized crime (collusion between Bukele and MS-13) - using anti-immigrant policy to hide high-level corruption.
Using my last gift link for the month because this is so mind-blowing, even for Trump. He's sending MS-13 gang members back to El Salvador, where they're being treated like royalty, so that he can suck up to the dictator, who's been locking up his deportees. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/30/u...

Always loved the people who are like, "But my ancestors came here the legal way!" and by that they mean they arrived via ratship to an island, a man asked them their name, they were like, "Uh, Jeff... Smith?" another guy said "sure?" and then they became permanent residents of the United States.
