There are so many fascinating aspects about the show (including the comic's author) and I've watched it twice now (ES audio/ENG captions, and ES audio/ES captions).

One was #translation lead's decision to refer to the Malvinhas vs the Falklands for all the languages & Argentinian card game truca.
When it comes to the Malvinas Islands, a name is more than just a name to Argentinians
“This is a sensitive issue, still very present, that crosses us in the political, historical, cultural and social scopes,” says translator Daiana Estefanía Díaz.

On Monday I presented at the online #APTIS25 conference alongside Kate Sotejeff-Wilson on 'Steps to bridge the divide between translation studies and professional practice', such as work placements and mentoring.
I really enjoyed listening to other contributions - lots to think about. #ITICommunity

Sign the petition to get the UK Home Office to listen to translation experts before they blindly implement automated (AI-based) translation for asylum cases.

If the Home Office is serious about protecting human rights, it must listen to those who work with language and law every day.

Funnily enough, we're actually going to talk about how most of this is kinda sorta right (for small values of right), as a cautionary tale about generative AI.

#Must-Read

Thought-provoking, even if grim, reporting on the impact of AI on the work of translaters and Interpreters.

Thank you @bcmerchant.bsky.social for bringing their stories to our attention.
Since 2023, translators and interpreters have seen work dry up, rates plummet and their jobs reduced to editing AI-generated output. Some are leaving the field, others are considering bankruptcy. All despite any major upgrade in translation quality.

This is how AI is killing translation work:
AI Killed My Job: Translators
Few industries have been hit by AI as hard as translation. Rates are plummeting. Work is drying up. Translators are considering abandoning the field, or bankruptcy. These are their stories.
