Maddening that many Democrats STILL seem to experience "dangerous authoritarians elevated to extremely powerful roles, like presidential frontrunner or Speaker of the House" as some kind of political opportunity than, you know, the actual ascendance of authoritarians into extremely powerful roles

It is possible to think that the Israeli apartheid must end now, and that the bombing of Gaza is a war crime, and also think that Hamas indiscriminately murdering civilians is a war crime. It's not even a paradox or a logic puzzle, it's a basic consistent moral position.

My 7.5 year old is doing fine in her mask in elementary school, but my soon-to-be 13-year-old in junior high is being bullied for wearing a mask.

I can't bring myself to let him take his mask off.

Time to fry some onions.😭

This week I had a scan at the cancer hospital. Cancer hospital foundation employees were not wearing masks, most patients were. I’m left wondering… who is the cancer hospital foundation for? What is their stated purpose?

Reporting live from the COVID booster field at the local Walgreens. It’s awful. Literally every person here is having trouble with their insurance because, where it worked easily during the state’s declared pandemic emergency, “it is no longer an emergency.”

It's incredible how reliably conspiracy theories end up reinforcing--rather than challenging--power.

COVID conspiracy theories, for example, fuel opposition to public health measures opposed by big business.

The Biden White House has said you don’t need to wear a mask if you’re vaccinated, hidden breakthrough infections, dismissed high COVID spread, downplayed Long COVID and more. Sadly, they too have played a role in allowing the anti-vax movement to grow.
The anti-vaccine movement is on the rise. The White House is at a loss over what to do about it.
“They keep just hoping it’ll go away.”

Great 🧵 and true. Rapid tests aren’t a panacea and now we can live our lives. Neither is paxlovid. We simply don’t have tools that work well enough to remove all mitigations.

Unless the goal is fake herd immunity built on constant reinfection of large %s of the population.

So yes, *technically* the tests work. But as a tool for limiting covid spread they don't IMHO and that's what matters

Based on wastewater data
it appears current levels
are approaching
the pandemic’s first peak
from 2020
and the Delta peak
from 2021
but this does not mean
that we are back where we were
in 2020 or 2021
for back then
most of us were still trying
not to spread the virus.
