“What’s so hard about pulling a sword out of a stone? The real work’s already been done. You ought to make yourself useful and find the man who put the sword in the stone in the first place, eh?”

One of the right wing's top cultural initiatives was trying to destroy the idea that assholery deserves shame and we'll have to reverse that. "I'm just expressing an opinion I'm entitled to." Ok but you're an asshole. "I'm simply doing a business practice that technically isn't illegal." Ok. Asshole

Money:
Donated to NAACP, held fundraisers for MLK Jr. and other civil rights leaders, hired Black people.

Frank Sinatra was effectively accused of being woke back in 1958. And his response was to tell people, "Shut up. I'm Frank Sinatra. I do what I want. Stop being such a hateful little jerk."

Yup.
I'm telling y'all, these dudes don't know anything.🤡

Frank Sinatra was a vocal anti-racist. He fought racism with his actions, his words, and his money.

Actions:
Refused to stay at segregated hotels. Made sure Black artists got paid fairly.

Words:
Literally wrote an article in Ebony Magazine

an easy way to understand this is that people make clothes cool and not the other way around. so our judgement of what looks "good" is often shaped by the cultural capital of various social groups. punks, skaters, hip hop heads, etc look stylish simply bc they are cool. thus money is not a barrier.

true. that's bc you've allowed your sense of style to be narrowly defined by fashion brands, instead of thinking about it in terms of cultural history. over the course of the 20th century, many groups have dressed well, even if they didn't conform to fashion trends or bourgeois respectability

Hierarchies of status/power and notions of supremacy are only really necessary for determining who has authority over another and that’s only really necessary to determine who gets to abuse who.

If you aren’t looking to abuse someone, then you really have no need for hierarchies or supremacy.
Have you noticed? When someone points to our responsibility—individual and personal, or collective and societal—to end an abuse, the question asked next is very rarely about *how* to do it, but how to *prevent* us from doing it, for fear of doing it the wrong way.

No one says to legit business owners, "hey I see there's an underground market selling toxic knock-offs of your product: how will you incorporate the toxic product AND protect your customers against its harms?" But apparently it's fine to make this suggestion to educators with respect to AI.
