Which one of these guys averaged a triple double this season? Jokic should win MVP and it shouldn't even be close

The American president ordered the deportation of a man legally in the US, against a judge's orders, and now his administration refuses to follow another judge's orders to bring the man back.

Every American should be horrified by this brazen dictatorial power. Trump needs to be removed from office

"Spectacle of Terror" is a good, concise, descriptive tagline for the Trump/Musk regime
Even if you accept the premise and decision, which I absolutely do not, it is the simplest thing to phone the visa holder, tell them their visa is revoked and say they have a month to leave the country. Accosting someone on the street like a kidnapping is just a spectacle of terror.
Marco Rubio on Rumeysa Ozturk: "We revoked her visa ... once you've lost your visa, you're no longer legally in the United States ... if you come into the US as a visitor and create a ruckus for us, we don't want it. We don't want it in our country. Go back and do it in your country."

Impeachable offense, if you could find a few congressional Republicans with even half a spine or a few ounces of patriotism
MUST READ: "The president and several of his officials have openly challenged judicial authority, raising fears that his administration may defy court orders — and potentially ignite a constitutional crisis."
Has the Trump Admin Officially Defied Court Orders?

The NCAA selection committee continues to exhibit incomprehensible levels of stupidity. Louisville as an 8 seed? On bracketmatrix only 2 brackets have the ACC runner up lower than a 7 seed

UNC is included in only 27 out of 111 brackets

Apple just paused its AI LLM Siri upgrade indefinitely.

The writing is on the wall.
iPhone sales are down after they focus on AI instead of something people want. But Microsoft went all in on AI for Windows 11, they must be doing well—

They’re losing market share to windows 10, their own operating system that’s 9 years old.

Something feels off about the ratings produced by this system. The top 5 feel quite reasonable but I see a few teams that have some inflated Elo rankings, like St Mary's, UConn, Gonzaga, and Louisville in the 11-15 range

Relative conference strength is not appropriately counted for, I think
I have questions about Nate Silver's new hoops ratings (an elo-based system is actually a useful addition to the landscape) but the first one is how the Northeast Conference got abbreviated as NSEC and America East got abbreviated as ASEC. www.natesilver.net/p/sbcb-colle...

In addition to "we are nimble", things like "Get Stuff Done" and "Attack with Overwhelming Force" are big red flags in a job description. If you see these - run.

Daylight savings time is the one where you get an extra hour of sunlight at the end of the day

Standard time gives an extra hour in the morning

DST is the good one, we should never "fall back" some year, just stay on DST

I stopped watching ESPN long ago (RIP Baseball Tonight) and SAS was a big part of that

My research and expertise is in weather observation and ML. This post is correct. It is an irreplaceable loss that makes the US less capable of responding to extreme weather amidst a changing climate.

I'm already interviewing overseas, myself. It's clear the field has no future in the US
Bottom line: The intentional loss of exceptional scientists and other terrific public servants at NOAA leaves our country less safe and more vulnerable.

Even before the Trump Musk cuts to research funding and their institutional witch-hunt, academia was not a compelling post-phd option for many reasons. Low pay (relative to industry), high stress, poor work life balance, constantly on the move until you get tenure. Some of the reasons I left in 2020

I have one of these in my email as well, trying to figure out the best way to respond. "I don't work for people who bend the knee to treasonists and fascists" feels like a reasonable start
well, I don't think they'll care, but it was at least cathartic to write out a detailed "absolutely the fuck not" response to a Meta recruiting message

"Foreign nationals" i.e. brilliant researchers who have helped and continue to help aid our understanding of extreme weather, along with how to predict it and ultimately save lives.

NOAA employs career scientists who want nothing more than to do their research and make the world better
