It's been a very quiet week.
As a small business owner that’s a bit scary heading into my busy season.

So, if you're looking for unique #Christmas gifts, I make prints, homewares, cards & accessories inspired by midcentury design, music & architecture.

I keep two glasses on my bedside table at night: a glass of water and an empty one, because sometimes, when I wake up, I'm not thirsty.

I’d signed up for the Robin Hood Half but had to drop out after my cancer diagnosis. However, I’m bloody well going to run it in my own time because I really want to raise money for this incredible charity (CRY). I’m delayed but not deterred

We’ve been watching Wolf Hall, a fascinating study of how the fragile male ego of a fickle, greedy despot creates a culture of deep cruelty and mistrust, where everyone lives in fear of saying the wrong thing. Thank goodness we’ve moved on from those times.

Wrote a bit more about how the *process of making software* is a social activity before it is a technical activity, and AI tools alienating us from that social activity directly undermine our ability to make software.
Understanding how people work together is hard. Ordering them to use ChatGPT is easy. So managers do the latter, and then express shock when productivity plummets.

That's because problem framing is a social task. If you skip it, your solution will be wrong for ever; "build to learn" won't save you.
Skipping alignment leads to zero-impact UX
Deliverable artifacts are only a small part of the social system that product development entails. Any "productivity" gained by ignoring that system is an illusion.

I’m wondering if it was a mistake to let a thin-skinned, anti-science nepo baby lead the nation’s health and medical agencies
I guess if I was a member of Congress I would be pretty unhappy that an agency leader talk to me informally would be considered a fireable offense.
