Buried lede: could end HIV if they charged $50 per dose and not $42,000
This drug is the 'breakthrough of the year' -- and it could mean the end of the HIV epidemic
That's the title that Science magazine is bestowing upon the medication called lenacapavir — a twice yearly injectable that prevents infection by the HIV virus.

Everybody talks about the US vs. Other Nation life expectancy gap, but nobody talks about the fact the inflection point occurs right at the beginning of the Reagan / "neoliberal" era. I don't think this is a coincidence - it's pretty extraordinary !

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing.

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.

Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.

Democrats will often look at something that doesn’t poll well and think “oh no, better move away from that!” but they’re getting their role backwards. parties influence public opinion. if you’re purely reactive, you’re just letting the GOP frame every debate.
the lesson of the election isn’t “we should give up on trans rights,” it’s that the GOP took an issue that negatively impacted almost no one and made it a headliner. why would it help to surrender on an issue if they can create a grievance from thin air?

This is the next phase that Kiwi Farms members have stated they will do - constructing look-alike blocklists and then adding popular trans people to them after the fact, once the blocklist is seeded in the community. Make sure any block list you use says who runs it.
Do you know who is running this list? Reason for asking is they copied this account's lists verbatim, but do not say who is running their account.

Insane how many articles we’ve gotten about trans rights going too far when the anti-trans movement is constantly announcing that they want to banish a tiny, marginalized group from public life
The new Ohio college bathroom ban is even worse than I thought. Not only does it ban trans people from using single-sex bathrooms that match their gender; it also bans colleges from having nongendered bathrooms or locker rooms available.

The way I've been resisting this is just thinking about how the signs of a fundamental constitutional break are accumulating. Trump as president is a violation of the 14th Amendment; an (alleged) criminal as AG inverts justice; putting a Russian intelligence asset as DNI betrays US nat'l security...
Please do not normalize these radical, extremist, unqualified and highly compromised nominees. I beg you.

V funny listening to centrist Dems on various pods (Pod Save, Klein etc) this week spend hours dancing around the basic idea that “The centre left’s embrace of neoliberalism 30 years ago was not a great idea” but being unable to actually just say it directly because in upends their entire worldview.

Way too many people are comfortable with fascism, so long as it's not being targeted at them. The fact that liberals elected a president that wrote the Crime Bill, drafted the Patriot Act, voted to create DHS, and was VP when indefinite detention was legalized speaks volumes about their priorities.

Personally I think satire is an important form of deprogramming! Mocking and marginalizing conspiracies often works better than debunking or debating them.
I'm relieved about downfall of this ghoul and the fact that this is *with* the Sandy Hook families is a good sign, but I was hoping this would become a kind of deprogramming site? I wanted to see some harm undone. I'm not sure you get there with satire.
Hi everyone.

The Onion, with the help of the Sandy Hook families, has purchased InfoWars.

We are planning on making it a very funny, very stupid website.

We have retained the services of some Onion and Clickhole Hall of Famers to pull this off.

I can't wait to show you what we have cooked up.

Given how Twitter deteriorated when people could buy their way to the top of conversations, I’d be extremely wary.
How do we all feel about the possibility that the long-term viability of a platform like this remaining not crappy would require many of us to pay a small monthly fee?

Was there today for the H.R. 9495 vote (bill that would have allowed labeling nonprofits as terrorist supporting organizations).

Voted no, of course - but I do want to report that the activism DID work and persuaded members.

I thought it’d be a lonely NO vote, which we take often. It wasn’t.

“buh when did trump ever follow the rules”

it’s not about following the rules, dipshits, it’s about whether the words carry any legal authority. there is no button he can press to make congress adjourn. congress would have to choose to do it. and that is a distinction that matters.
sorry but article ii section 3 does not say that the president can force congress to adjourn *when it does not want to* and spreading that message is doing trump’s work for him
