guys who spent 30 years trying to analyze which presidential candidate's soundbite gaffes were worse trying to understand literal fascism. a lot of people who thought they were understanding politics were really just understanding court gossip and theater
Every article by a 'savvy' political analyst reads like a focus group transcript with a low-information voter.

for every $250 (up to a maximum if $1,000 because i feel like living) i will take one square of these cleanly cut squares of 800mg edibles
In about an hour I'll be going live with the PS2 Jackie Chan Adventures game. It only got released in PAL for some reason.

I'm expecting rough gameplay and a runtime of like 4 hours. Also I'll be fundraising for rent because life is pain.

See you there @ kzxcellent.live

Like how exactly do we know that the Three Eyed Raven is a Good Guy and the White Walkers are bad guys? The White Walkers are definitely brutal in their methods but (beyond killing the three eyed Raven and later Bran) it's sort of unclear what their aims are!

Something I keep coming back to is that one mystery that (in my opinion) the show DID conclusively resolve is what The Lord of Light's deal is: a capital-E evil blood God.

And one of the only things we know about the white walkers is that the Lord of Light is a staunch opponent...
The white walkers were foreshadowed so long in the show and it was so anticlimactic how quickly they resolved it. You figure Martin would do it better.

I don't think that the Targaryen's are inherently good or even necessarily modernizing, I think Danerys in particular is, which is why they spend 5 seasons of the show demonstrating her sincere (and eventually successful) commitment to slavery eradication bsky.app/profile/roni...
This is a take that is all fine and good until one remembers that the Targaryens ruled Westeros for more than two and a half centuries and did fuck all to modernize it. Daenerys was not the Leviathan, she was the last gasp of a self-destructive, dying, entitled dynasty.
The Targaryens sit on The Iron Throne, the symbol of their dragon-led domination of the lesser nobles and unification of Westeros's under a Leviathan-type ruler. What does Bran sit on?

I assume some book reveals about what exactly is the deal with The Faceless Men (which the show never really explains) may explain some of that but ya - there's certainly an implication that the Iron Bank is financially devastating Westeros! bsky.app/profile/erne...
What doesn’t make sense is that they have a developed mercantile system and elaborate banking system in the Free Cities which should be an engine for technological and economic development.

It's a frustrating topic because combining the books with the shows ending def imply Bran is in a God Emperor of Dune sort of situation but the books haven't gone far enough to support that and the show doesn't ever really coherently explain what the Three Eyed Raven (or white walkers) actually are
If you follow the implications of the book, King Bran is going to be some kind of horrific God Emperor of Mankind kinda thing, possessed by a tree hive mind that can keep his body alive forever as some sort of conduit for their power. In the show though he's just some freaky kid.

Yes the Citadel exists explicitly to stifle and undermine technological progress. Tellingly the one time Pycelle speaks up against any of Cersei's plans is when she brings in Qyburn bsky.app/profile/patr...
it's been at least 1,000-3,000 years since they learned to make good steel, which they forgot, and there's still no printing press, no gunpowder, no clocks... yeah, they're not going anywhere.

I think it all clicks into place when you realize the show was subtly setting up the wheel as an elaborate metaphor starting with the first episode. bsky.app/profile/padr...
I don’t know man, it seems to me like the show didn’t realize it was making that point

The ending with a high council of great lords electing a non hereditary monarch isnt political progress. Its just the reshuffling of the medieval deck you saw with the Holy Roman Empire. The wheel turn on

Danerys was breaking the wheel. She is Leviathan, literally bsky.app/profile/myle...
Exactly. They had the chance to end the cycle, break the wheel. And they chose not to. It was not inevitable. If every living person who fought at the Battle of Winterfell had laid down their arms for good and let themselves be killed by the Night King, the Wheel would have broken for good.

i think you can imagine a lot of drama and intrigue but what was ultimately revealed as the central question of the show's big picture ("can westeros escape hellish medieval stasis and progress into history as an early-modern state") was answered already: The Wheel Grinds On, Forever!
would be interesting, particularly since Sansa seems to have been developed as a hybrid of Stark idealism and Baelish manipulation (plus trauma. So much trauma).

i feel like if you understand what the ending of the show was trying to say there's no point in having any content set after it.

no new age of the world, westeros is trapped in doomed to be trapped in hellish medieval stasis for eternity. the wheel spins on forever

The malwarebytes Google opting-your-emails-into-ai-training thing is not true. The post is based on one bad tweet.

I know anti-tech lamenting is a Bluesky core principle, but please use the same judgement you would for any other clickbait.
