"genuine appreciation is somehow considered less intellectual than criticism" is such a word

the number of times I've said I enjoyed something and IMMEDIATELY, like a starting pistol just went off, someone gallops in to do "too bad you are simply Not Smart Enough to have spotted this list of flaws"
It goes into that weird thing that genuine appreciation is somehow considered less intellectual than criticism but everybody is getting trained to be such a cynical unfeeling asshole nowadays that I find the smartest people often are the “hell yeah cool song/drawing/story/video” people

Ew. Terrible take. In 15 years we went from abundant video stores and the magical Netflix having every movie and tv show under the sun (if you just waited it would show up at your house!) Now Netflix has 30 movies and 30 shows and the video stores are gone. Choice is exactly what we lost.
Someone doesn’t remember how badly going to a video store sucked, and just generally how much worse things were in the 90s-2000s. Oh, it doesn’t work perfectly? Sometimes they just didn’t have the thing you wanted. We live in an era of unprecedented media abundance and it’s has spoiled us rotten.
I would laugh if this wasn't so true 😭

The problem (at least in IL) is not that we have a feckless governor or mayor unwilling "to stand up to Trump." The problem is that over 80 years+ we the people have ceded vast powers to the Fed govt for good and necessary reasons and then, last November, we gave all those powers to Donald Trump.

State AGs have released a video saying that they "will do whatever it takes" to protect trans people in their states.

While the message is admirable, they need to take the one step they have not yet:

Sue the hospitals that capitulate to Trump, violating state law.

regardless of what happens to the tariffs, they're doomed from the start because the average conservative holds all three of these positions at once:

— virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— against increasing the minimum wage
— buys foreign imports because they're cheap

The Framers made arguably one major mistake: They believed the legislative branch would jealously guard its power. They could not have fathomed that the legislative branch (Out of laziness, raw partisanship and a desire to keep their sinecures) would willingly surrender its power.
one sign that the “unitary executive” is less the restoration of an older constitutional order and more the imposition of a radical new one is that allowing the president to act untethered from most legal or congressional limits has largely just served to plunge the country into disorder
