Technologies that allow us to do more with less (read: are efficient uses of resources) are the shit, my jam, and cool as hell.

Technologies which seemingly need more and more resources (energy, compute cores, human labor) to do questionable things at best are whack and you shouldn't like them.

finished my long overdue read of @niedermeyer.io 's book yesterday - it's so good especially if you like getting irritated at how much musk has been able to bullshit his way through this whole thing

shoutout to the MKE library for having a few copies too, love the library

www.motor1.com/features/713... my new piece for Motor1: 7,500 pedestrians are dying every year on American streets, and yet American policy is still to encourage carmakers to build ever-bigger trucks. We need to act *now*.
Pedestrian Deaths Are An Emergency. We Need To Start Acting Like It
With 7,500 pedestrian fatalities in America every year, we must consider the safety of people outside our cars.

I’m not rewriting all of this here. Just know that ships are incredibly big and hard to steer with full power and impossible to steer with no power(every boat is) so don’t be a fucking idiot. x.com/thewapplehou...

holy fuck a use case for AR that I actually want
Free idea: some sort of AR/VR tech that shows your time trial ghost for literally anything and everything. So you could beat your record going to the fridge and your record for filling up the Brita etc. We could all be doing everything so fast

In Madame Web at 39.30 minutes in you can clearly see an Amtrak locomotive painted in Amtrak's Phase V livery, which wasn't widely adopted until 2005, despite this film being set in 2003. Boy I hope someone got fired for that blunder

What, and I cannot stress this enough, the actual fuck? We’re gonna stick the military in subways and pay police billions of dollars in overtime for doing nothing, but we can’t fund basic science?

This country needs to learn how to stop being afraid of things. Bunch of fucking grown ass toddlers.
Pretty depressing day at work today with lots of staff updating their resumes as we grapple with NASA's decision to shut down Chandra, the world's only ever high resolution X-ray space telescope, still returning fabulous science discoveries. Still hoping this can be reversed

The lower 48 states just had the warmest winter in 130 years of record-keeping, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Temperatures were more than 5 degrees Fahrenheit hotter than average.
U.S. has warmest winter on record – and no, that's not a good thing
From lack of snow to wildfires, a record-warm winter had impacts across the country. Scientists say winters are warming faster than any other season in the U.S.
