I agree with most (maybe not some nuances) of the thread here. Something I really try to avoid, and bring up in editing others, is when a film is criticised for not doing *what the critic wanted*. To some extent, that doesn't matter. Does it do what *it wants to* effectively? Why or why not?
2. This approach pretty clearly ignores what ought to be a major tenet of film criticism, which is thinking about movies for what they are and what they try to be, not based on whether they’re Citizen Kane (or Jeanne Dielman, our reigning S&S champion).
