After I got back from Iraq/out of the service I figured it was my moral duty to witness any/all atrocities. Great way to give yourself/amplify PTSD. Perspective is great, yes, but the little lighter moments are usually the only thing keeping you grounded/around. Especially when a parent.
the worst thing about people like this is they think they’re morally superior to the rest of us when in fact they’re just sanctimonious scolds
Some people are unhappy and always will be and deserve to be.

Zelensky is a wartime leader watching his people suffer and die under Russian attacks every day. To be lectured and lied to by Trump and Vance, as they defend the war criminal dictator committing these atrocities, is unimaginable agony. An everlasting shame for America.
Trump has not uttered a critical word about Putin but he and his VP publicly belittled the leader of the nation Putin invaded.

This is how Lewis describes the fascist President-to-be. He "was vulgar, almost illiterate, a public liar easily detected, and in his "ideas" almost idiotic, while his celebrated piety was that of a traveling salesman for church furniture."

In Sinclair Lewis's "It Can't Happen Here," (1935) the fascist who got elected President of the United States writes in his autobiography about his realization, early in life, that being an obnoxious dunce got him far more attention than being a smart and decent person.

It’s fucking brilliant.

Yep. When you feel weak and victimized and helpless you can feel empowered fighting back or taking physical pain to numb the emotional pain. Nuance can get lost in the affect pretty quick (political stumping as a huge example).
rewatching FIGHT CLUB this week i was very struck by how a movie that is very plainly a critique of this vision of masculinity was taken up as a valorization of it
It's grim thinking about how many men and women in society have mental models of valorous male behavior that primarily consist of being abusive and violent.

“I recently read about man who collects pictures of walk-off home runs. He said that the reason he did this is because this is how he views us entering heaven.

Look at the faces of his teammates waiting to welcome him home. They can’t wait to celebrate with him.”

Love this (stolen from Twitter).
