- (charitable) we use AI content and forgot to clean this one up, or
- (more likely) shit, we got caught

To any indie or aspiring devs: NEVER use placeholders that could be confused for final assets, because they will be.

In gamedev, if you're using a placeholder asset, best practices involve marking it as placeholder so garishly and offensively clearly PLACEHOLDER that you can't possibly miss it. Also flagging that asset in the dev process so it can be identified quickly before the final build.

As an artist if I were to use stolen assets in my work I'd be at risk of being fired, my reputation ruined, and/or costly legal fees.

If an employee with access to gen AI does it, it's just an "oopsy" and nothing really happens.

Not to be the fun police but I do hope people know that Arc Raiders does use generative AI for voice acting, and by supporting the game you're letting higher-ups know that this is an okay practice.

They try to downplay this on the Steam store page by describing the AI usage as vaguely as possible.
