History shows that when democracies face crises, strengthening and reinvigorating democratic participation is essential to prevent democratic backsliding and the rise of authoritarianism. This is not that.

Powerful research with a clear message.

“Children are fascinated by the natural world. It’s maintaining that through their childhood and schooling that’s essential, alongside urban greening. There’s policies starting to do that but we’ve got to think in transformational terms – not 30% but 1,000%.”
My latest research looked at people’s relationship with nature since 1800, and created a model that accurately recreated that trend and looked forward to 2125 www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Two thoughts:

1) A (de)congestion charge will be effective in reducing traffic and making buses faster + more reliable. The thought put into the exemptions (eg for care workers, blue badge holders) is positive to see.

2) I hope an online survey is not the main/only way people are being consulted.

Great explainer of how we got to today’s broken housing market…
Why are house prices so high?

we should probably be prouder of the UK's success in reducing its share emissions... even including offshore footprint it's a 36% reduction since 1990
Something really striking about the energy transition in the UK is that, despite having halved our emissions since 1990, very few people are aware of this success - only a quarter of the public think we've made a meaningful difference to cutting our emissions

An important but under-funded way to boost the amount of social housing is for councils to buy existing homes into their stock.

It pays off in rents, less benefit £ and huge wider gains, and it helped the Mayor of London achieve his housing targets. I call it Buy the Supply. 🧵
If the Treasury fail to provide Angela with the funding needed to deliver enough social homes in the Spending Review, they can wave goodbye to building 1.5 million new homes. A promise made to the country

Worse still, they’ll be condemning an entire generation to a cycle of poverty and homelessness
