I'm skeptical that AI can accurately summarize complicated (and often poorly written) academic writing. But all that matters is that people think it can do the job. (If they don't read, they will be none the wiser.)
This could kill academic publishing. If AI can accurately summarize paywalled books/articles, there's no reason for universities to pay publishers for books or journal access contracts (esp w/ budget cuts). And without those book sales/contracts, academic publishing isn't financially viable.
President Trump announced that the United States’ stance on intellectual property and AI would be a “common sense application” that does not force AI companies to pay for each piece of copyrighted material used in training frontier models, saying that approach is “not doable.”

My father died in a girl fight. He tried to break it up and the girls pulled him apart like freshly baked bread. He didn't even scream. One moment he was there, the next just a spray of dad viscera.
