Absolutely deadly behavior causing another crash on Spruce Street at 5th st early this morning. This is on the busiest bike lane in Philly with over 1,500 riders who use it daily.

We deserve so much better than paint and flexposts, we deserve real protection.

Loading zones on Spruce St in Philadelphia are great, but drivers often don't use them and endanger cyclists in the bike lane instead. We need concrete protected bike lanes now! @bikeaction.org @bcgp.bsky.social

Driver speeds down Spruce St bike lane in Philadelphia today just behind a cyclist. Can we please get some concrete protection before another preventable tragedy?!?! @bikeaction.org @bcgp.bsky.social

Johnny Brenda's in Philly has a really cool bicycle/human sculpture and a corral for bike parking. Would love to see more of this around Philly!

Another cyclist killed by a driver in an unprotected bike lane in Philadelphia. We need to do more, now, to protect vulnerable road users. We all deserve to get where we are going safely. www.inquirer.com/transportati...

So nice to see the city pushing for bike and pedestrian safety. It feels like Philly's got momentum for real change. Hopefully we can win some hearts and minds and save some lives along the way, even before better infrastructure!

Companies who do this should be charged for the replacement + a hefty penalty fine.
Only two days, and we already have a delivery truck plowing over the brand new flex bollards in order to park in the bike lane. Thanks for the new installs, @arlingtondes.bsky.social & @arlcountyboard.bsky.social, but this needs to be concrete and steel.

Dear Philly Drivers: Crosswalks are for walking. They are not loading zones. They are not parking spots. Please find a proper place for your motor vehicle that does not put pedestrians in danger.

Bicycle-friendly cities are safer for all road users, even drivers.

This is what new research in the US suggests. The study by N. Ferenchak and Wesley E. Marshall found that bicycling activity is significantly associated with better safety for all road users.

In case you ever wondered how flexible a flexpost is… 🙃

These bendy plastic straws are great for cheap, quick build projects, but it’s important for cities to replace them with infrastructure that actually forces drivers to operate our vehicles safely (AKA concrete).

Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.

ALL ROAD USERS.

And painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.

For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.

Half of business owners on this Toronto street estimated that more than 25% of their customers arrived by car.

In fact, it was 4%.

And the % of customers who who walked or cycled? 72%.

Retailers routinely overestimate the # of “car customers.” Via @carltonreid.com www.forbes.com/sites/carlto...

It’s REALLY important that #Vancouver’s Downtown Business Association, who were originally against downtown bike-lanes, are now among their most vigourous supporters, because of the evidence that they are better for downtown business than any street parking they replaced.

Bike-lanes mean business.
