We’ve had several rounds of layoffs at @arlingtonva.us, with federal funding for affordable housing being a major loss. Those left have more work while wages stagnate and inflation skyrockets. Had to change our mission statement to remove nasty words the regime hates like “vibrant” and “sustainable”

Looks like U.S. Congress is moving ahead with a 3rd round of PRO Housing grants. Nicknamed #YIMBY Grants, #ArlingtonVA benefitted from the 1st round through @mwcog.bsky.social back in 2023-24 to update its zoning policies. Our 2nd round application for middle-income homeownership support failed.
Can Congress Get 'YIMBY Grants' Right?

Arlington: those living in Crystal City and Pentagon City, you have an awesome YIMBY-endorsed candidate for SD-39. Special election is THIS TUESDAY, February 10th!
@ebpforva.bsky.social has long been a housing champion in Richmond. She knows the crisis requires an “all of the above” approach, from tenant protections & affordable housing to overall supply.

She’s voted for every CHC bill she’s seen this year; we’re excited to see that continue in the Senate 👏🏼

I'm still not happy with the Virginia Democrats on this issue, nor their responses about it. Yes many of these tax hike bills are not going to make it out of legislature. Yes many were filed when Youngkin was still gov. That doesn't change the fact Dem members pushed them in the first place.

Seconding this endorsement of serving as a poll worker. The hours are dreadful (5 a.m. to 8-9 p.m. in Virginia), but you do get paid, you get to help your neighbors exercise their rights, and the next time some bozo talks smack about election integrity, you can smugly reply "have you even served?"
as i keep saying, the things to do to secure elections are to volunteer to work the polls or to serve as an observer, & to pressure your *state representatives* to take steps to further secure voting locations and ballots. you should also learn about how election administration works in your area.

The city would be doing people a huge financial favor by charging for parking and encouraging them to get rid of their cars. If people can leave them sitting in a row like this covered in show for over a week, they don’t need them and are wasting their money and should get rid of them.

Got a new phone a week ago & one of the smartest decisions I made was to *not* automatically xfer over everything. Amazed at all the apps I have not used for years. Also not installed FB, IG, or Reddit on the new phone & finding much better mental health plus more free time the past week.

Virginia Democrats, please don't make me regret voting for you. New proposed taxes on dog walking, gym memberships, self storage facilities, dry cleaning, & *electric* leaf blowers (??!?).

With all these "city" rankings we win at, should Arlington just go ahead and become a city?

"Too often, cities claim to support new housing while taxing it like a problem."

#Zoning & other land use reforms get a lot of attention regarding the #housing crisis - and rightly so! But local tax & fee structures may be hindering low-cost construction even if technically legal.
In 2025, States Legalized More Housing-but Sticky Tax Policies Are Still Hurting Builders and Buyers
Cities passed hundreds of pro-housing laws in recent years. But without aligning tax policy, many of those wins may not pencil out.
