🧵 The autoworker at the Dearborn Truck Plant is a proud member of a strong and fighting union—the UAW. He believes in freedom of speech, a principle we wholeheartedly embrace, and we stand with our membership in protecting their voice on the job.

Happy anniversary to my favorite photo of Miga, like maybe a few days after we'd officially adopted her and introduced her into the house

I am once again reminding you all that the UK government introduced an Online Safety Act that is effectively a porn ban on most adult porn websites, but is dithering over banning a website that is actually creating child porn.

For those asking why I am asking about ICE funding NOW, the government runs out of money this month and Congress has yet to pass the Homeland Security bill. ICE won’t be abolished, but Democrats can hold up the bill

This isn't just a casual observation. Fascism scholars have long made this point. It's why calling them "weird" was a more effective strategy than talking about the prices of eggs. Fascism is an aesthetic political movement - you need to make people feel embarassed and horrified by it.
one of the most effective weapons we have against fascism is mockery, especially when its really funny
It occurs to me all the yelling at ICE in MPLS isn't merely funny. Getting made fun of like this is awful for morale. ICE is losing field officers faster than it can wave them through training, and a big part of it is how little of this these little weasels can take.

Being right about trump was boring, tedious, partisan, ideological. Being wrong about trump? Heterodox, contrarian, free thinking.

in retrospect, it was amazing how much power people like Steven Pinker and Malcolm Gladwell had at their fingertips in the pre-social media era. They could write an airport book claiming potato chips killed more people than all historical wars combined and it would become universal received wisdom

If there's one empirical insight I'd want everyone to understand about American politics, it's this:

America's problems are solved problems. Just not here.

What would change if the US simply matched the average of 31 peer democracies? Not Denmark or Norway. Just the middle of the pack. 🧵

I lowkey hate how Dems have gone from "Trump's America First is a nationalist agenda that we should resist" to "We all wanted America First and Trump isn't coming through!"
While millions of Americans struggle to afford groceries, Donald Trump wants to spend their taxpayer dollars on invading foreign countries.

That's not America first.
This is NOT America first.

Mamdani is here describing a vision of working-class consumerism that resonates with the 19th century theorists of the “living wage” and shorter hours movements, whom I wrote about in my first book. “Eight Hours for What Will,” very much included the arts, education, and pleasure.

Anyone who has read Copaganda knows that we are in the crucial early moments of virality after an extra-judicial police murder. It's extremely important for ICE that the media plays along with the idea that what happened is contested and there are multiple perspectives.
