Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

Zohran Mamdani caught lying that he understood Plato’s allegory of the cave, yet when asked to explain it, he seemed to instead explain Baudrillard’s theory of Simulacra and Simulation where reality has been replaced by symbols and signs, which seems similar to Plato’s theory but is not the same

You gently run your hand through the rack. You can feel it—pure cotton, rich wool, Irish linen. The plump buttonholes are handsewn; the buttons attached with a firm shank. You flip the price tag over. It's affordable

You buy the jacket and go home, which is only 15 mins away. Your apt is $600/month

If you're deep in the trenches of baby and toddlerhood, hang in there. Eventually they learn to bake.

Snowflake. Farage doesn’t like to be held to account for his racist policies, his divisive rhetoric and his grifter politics - well bad luck because there is lots more to come www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

But of a test here for what remains of the British news media. These proposals are mad, racist and economic suicide. Will they be reported as such? Or will they be reported as a reasonable suggestion?
That Farage is treated seriously shows how degraded the politics in the UK habe become.
Barring absolute far right racists, anyone with half a brain cell can see this latest raft of proposals would utterly destroy the UK, as well as the lives of migrants. 1/

British NIMBYism is truly a sight to behold.

“We are rejecting this solar farm, because one time I saw an electric vehicle on fire, which reminded me that decades ago a coal mining disaster killed lots of children”.

Fascinated that In Our Time is one of the BBC’s most popular podcasts among under 35s. The young people demand three academics and a peer discussing Demosthenes, apparently. And they’re right to do so.

This, from the Quakers, is a pretty good example of how to resist pressure from bigot lobbying groups. Effectively “we legally can allow trans people to use the loo, we morally should, and we tried it and nothing bad happened”

Just for perspective, a few weeks ago roughly 100,000 turned up for the London Trans+ Pride march. By contrast fewer than 3,000 ACROSS THE WHOLE COUNTRY, have turned up to anti-asylum "protests". Yet we are meant to take the latter as "the voice of the people" and the former as "the minority".

The question bears repeating: why are the establishment UK news media continuing to claim that mass anti-migrant protests are erupting across the country when they are simply not?
Sunday protests seem to be < 500 nationwide, maybe < 300, across 4-6 locations

Yet ITV news using language of "erupt nationwide" (!)

Epping: 100-150
London: 20
Birmingham: 30
Stevenage: 30-50
Norwich: ? anything of any scale
Manchester: ? anything of any scale
Dudley: ? anything of any scale?

just saw a part time curator job for 20k a year in central London. tbh it’s at the point now anytime a cultural institution advertises a role they may as well just say “those who require a salary to live need not apply”. every year it gets worse, and we’re seeing how arts and culture suffers for it!
