Brexiters used to say that once we had left the EU, UK politicians could no longer use the EU as a scapegoat for our failings.

The same Brexiters have since chosen asylum seekers as an alternative scapegoat. And they haven't totally given up on the EU either.

“Socialism? So you don’t want us to own anything?”

No, that’s capitalism. The vast majority of people don’t own their house. They lease their vehicle. Hell, we don’t even own the music we play, the movies we watch or the video games we play.

Some more of my own Star Trek logos. The first would make a good comic logo too I reckon. The last one is my favourite and would have made a great Phase II or Lost Era logo, IMO. Others are just a bit of fun. Well, they all are really…

I ran an experiment, simultaneously posting articles on Bluesky and X, and then testing to see how many people actually clicked and read them. The numbers on Bluesky are higher, both because the X algorithm downranks journalism, and because Bluesky attracts readers, not just shitposters.

The UK government was just defeated in the House of Lords for a *fifth* time over AI training data transparency.

Please watch the electrifying end to Baroness Kidron's closing speech ahead of the vote. Creators have no greater champion.

Britain has no idea - in terms of its self-image, not economists obviously - what economy it actually has

One of my favourite facts to point out is: at over £8bn annually, the *videogames industry* is more than twice as valuable to the UK economy as fishing and steel combined.
Men are extremely keen to explain to me that Britain *needs* a domestic steel production plant and doesn't necessarily *need* universities. Okay. Steel contributed about £1.7bn to the UK economy in 2024. Universities contributed more than £200bn.

Yup. I continue to say that AI is for those who fetishize THE IDEA and dismiss THE WORK. It's for those people who come up to writers and say, "I got a great idea for a book, I'll give it to you, you write it, and we'll split the profits 50/50," as if the idea is the hardest and most important part.
I saw someone say AI is useful because it generates ideas. My dude, I'm full of ideas. I have docs and docs marked under 'ideas.' I have outlines and fragments of stuff I might work on. Trunked stories galore. Even if I continue to write a novel a year for the next 40 years I won't run out of ideas.

Maybe we should honor the women who were real astronauts.

From left to right are Shannon W. Lucid, Margaret Rhea Seddon, Kathryn D. Sullivan, Judith A. Resnik, Anna L. Fisher, and Sally K. Ride. NASA selected all six women as their first female astronaut candidates in January 1978.

My son works for this company here in the U.K.

It was playing the video game ‘Deus Ex’ that set him on the path to becoming a Biomechanical Engineer.

Sometimes, it’s nice to highlight the good things that video games can do. And also remind myself just how proud of him I am.
HOLY SHIT! This might be the coolest thing ever.
