Rob Reiner: I'm going to make a coming of age drama, a fantasy adventure story, a romantic comedy, a psychological horror and then a courtroom drama.

Us: Across your entire career?

Reiner: In a 6 year period.

Us: That sounds-

Reiner: -Each one will be arguably the best movie in that genre.

1. Starmer was warned and warned that his benefits cuts were not just cruel and unfair, but a political disaster. He dismissed the warnings, even this week, as no more than "noises off". Now, as the disaster materialises, he's desperately backtracking.
Here's an idea: how about listening? 🧵

The richest 0.1% of Americans control $22 trillion in wealth.

The bottom 50% control $3.8 trillion in wealth.

Read that back.

Folks, this is what oligarchy looks like.

Marriott’s CEO said it straight: “We welcome all… we create opportunities for all… that’s who we are as a company.”

He went back to his hotel to find 40K emails from Marriott associates worldwide saying “thank you.”

Plenty of CEOs talk. Capuano showed up.

Marriott still has my business.

BBC muzzling one of its best presenters from making an excellent, wholly factual programme because heat pumps are “controversial”. An organisation badly in need of new leadership.

Financial grammar tip. If you're dealing with numbers that could be negative don't use a dash as a separator, use a colon.

A very strange UK politics where it seems the two traditional parties are targeting the same ~20% of the population and nobody very much cares about the remaining 80%.

US deports hundreds of Venezuelans "despite" court order.

Meaning, of course: "in breach of".

On the face of it, it looks like there is now a full constitutional crisis in United States, in that the executive is now freely ignoring court orders.

Crisis point reached.

Their arrival comes less than 24 hours after a federal judge blocked a law Trump planned to use for the deportations.

Bear in mind that this (perhaps partial) intelligence cut off occurs AFTER Zelensky issued a de facto apology to Trump, which Trump publicly accepted. If Trump wanted Ukraine to lose and Russia to win, it would be hard to see how his actions would be much different right now.

The crucial question is now: how will the federal government respond?

Will it comply with the court ruling?

Or flout it?

This is a test of whether the needle moves from constitutional drama to constitutional crisis.

Will Trump and Musk blink?
Well.
BREAKING: By a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court LIFTS its hold on a lower court order compelling the Trump administration to resume nearly $2 billion in foreign aid funding. The funds MUST be disbursed. Roberts and Barrett join the liberals.

Obviously, this is huge. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

There's a rumour that Nigel Farage is keeping his head down because he's off to a Trump cheerleading conference over the weekend.

I’m afraid I’m being proved right- Farage is far more interested in Trump's success than British security. He is a bootlicker and a plastic patriot.
