My hot take is that footnotes are way better than endnotes.
I will format the endnotes properly next time.

cool to mention SNAP, which was unpaid because the admin chose to affirmatively suspend it, and not due to the shutdown, and ICE being paid "due to a special law" when they were being illegally paid despite the shutdown. So in both cases not tied to the shutdown, but the admin's general lawlessness

I recognize this is, to some extent, cope/bargaining, but

this is the the first of several votes necessary to end the shutdown, right? so even the present unfathomable fecklessness doesn't mean it's over over, and there are multiple potential blockage points ahead to reject a no-concessions 'deal'?

It’s as though Aunt Bea had hijacked a national political party.
Agree.

Sen Hassan, asked what will happen if Republicans don't carry out the deal, "Well, shame on them."

This is not what people were mobilizing for on Oct 18.

I’m leaving this post up for transparency’s sake, but I just got some clarification on the federal RIF reinstatement/moratorium.

It only stops them from re-firing people until January of 2026 - I thought it was also a year.

So yeah, there’s not much of a win here. Apologies for the misread.
Honestly, this is likely as good of a deal as the Democrats are going to get.

Reinstates fired federal workers. Prevents admin from re-firing them. SNAP funding for a year, and an ACA vote in December.

Voters are already blaming the GOP for the ACA - make them vote against it.

Democrats are extremely fortunate that people still showed up to vote for them in force despite their disgust with the party. That's something that might not last forever.

Congratulations Dr. Alicia Johnson and Peter Hubbard on LANDSLIDE statewide victories in Georgia.

These wins prove the massive grassroots energy powering Georgia Dems and unstoppable turnout juggernaut the Democratic Party of Georgia is building with the leadership of Chair Charlie Bailey.

This piece is spot-on in every particular. If Trump somehow succeeds in nuking the filibuster (unlikely, though you can never rule it out), it would be the best-case scenario for Dems in every possible way.

Good evening. We estimate that between 4.2 and 7.6 million people turned out for the No Kings Day demonstrations held around the country on Saturday. This makes Oct 18 very likely the biggest single-day U.S. protest event since 1970. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/second-no-...

the irony is that even though trump secured a plurality of the popular vote, the immediate capitulation came from the elites; the public had a much keener sense of what time it was right from the beginning
Yeah I do think the various attempts to will elite capitulation into being were briefly a successful bit of self-fulfilling prophesying but for various reasons are failing now - huge protests, university's rejecting the compact, the press refusing to go along with Hegseth's new pentagon policy, etc.
Remember back in January when all these sage politics-knowers were writing about how there had been a vibe shift and now the resistance was over?

lol. lmao.
