Why indeed?
Why in this Mandelson saga are we ignoring the elephant in the room? That we’re about to welcome and honour a man who was a great pal of Epstein and who continues to lie about that every day?

Angela Rayner accidentally pays less tax than she should have, resigns, and the media gives her hell.

Nigel Farage deliberately pays less tax than he should have, and the media gives him a free pass.

That, right there, is the problem.

Two things can be true at once. Rayner was foolish in her conduct and right to resign. It’s also true she was always despised by much of the right wing press because she was a working class powerful woman.

Reform and X are not Britain, as John Curtice shows, though this loud minority voice thinks it is

Migration bad for economy?
32% of public - but 73% of Reform

Bad for our culture?
31% of public - 81% of Reform

Rights for ethnic minorities have gone too far?
18% of public - but 49% of Reform

I've read Sir Laurie Magnus's conclusion and Rayner's resignation letter.

Rayner did breach the ministerial code, but in a very minor way. Under previous governments, we saw more serious breaches on a daily basis without consequence.

I hope her absence from government is short.

Rayner is absolute class. She's been a bit silly in organising her taxes, but that's not why they hate her. They hate her because she did not know her place.

I turn on my TV and a TV presenter is asking a Govt minister why they are talking about rolling out free childcare when the big issue is asylum hotels. This is objectively insane.

Love listening to @lbc.co.uk, @mrjamesob.bsky.social has been my morning companion for years. Try to listen when he's away, loved @lewisgoodall.com
But can't listen to Cleverly, had to turn Mordaunt off too. Partly the politics, but they're just not good presenters. It's a skill not everyone has!

Almost four years out from an election & paying *the actual fucking Taliban* to torture & murder people who risked their lives to escape them is getting the full ‘both sides’ treatment in Brexit Britain.

BBC apologises after Robert Jenrick accused of xenophobia
A contributor to Radio 4's Thought for the Day slot made the remark about the shadow justice secretary.

Yes, old Twitter had better vibes and lots more fun sh*tposting about food, TV, and sports. Also, Barack Obama was president and we didn’t have fascists setting up concentration camps. This literally has nothing to do with Bluesky as a social media platform.
it’s true the vibes are absolutely dire on this website right now, but I also think this really isn’t Bluesky’s fault and there’s not much they could plausibly *do* about it

it’s just that the demographic of people who like Bluesky are having a real fucking bad time right now

So, to be clear, Musk has now admitted he funded a man he believes to be a pedophile to be president.

And Trump has now admitted that he gave access to high level government secrets to a man he believes to be a big time drug addict.

This should be *the* story on the Sunday shows tomorrow.
Trump called Musk "a big-time drug addict" in a phone call shortly after their public feud. (WaPo)

Appreciate everyone is focused on the memes but Yusuf quitting Reform & the Musk-Trump spat on same day is a good illustration of how fragile the Populist Right - Libertarian tech bro coalition is. When it works it works for them, but ends up as fundamental interest misalignment

There's no placating the Brexiters, no reasoning with them, no basic comprehension or adulthood. You can't debate papers behaving like the Sun or the Mail this morning. There's nothing to debate with. They view all trading relations with Europe as humiliation.
