Folks in the US still like to treat the whole Greenland invasion stuff as sufficiently unserious to engage with, but it is sufficiently serious that NATO allies are actively deploying tripwire forces to deter the US. That is *already* a political and actual cost to them, and to US relationships

This is the most thrilling podcast I’ve listened to in quite a while: we are in the threshold of something truly transformative (in a good way!)
Today on Volts: Swedish tech entrepreneur Jonas Birgersson was once known in his country as "broadband Jesus" for his efforts in spreading decentralized, low-cost broadband access. Now, he wants to bring the same decentralized, peer-to-peer revolution to the electricity grid.
Making the electricity grid work like the internet
Jonas Birgersson joins me to explain how "packet-switching" for electrons can lead to energy abundance and grid resilience.

A US early-warning radar of one sort or another has been on Greenland for nearly 70 years—without the need for US sovereignty. Greenland is also covered by Article Five & US could protect it v Russia or China. Conflating Greenland's military importance with the issue of US ownership is dishonest.

This is really important.
Politics that are based on vibes rather than facts are bound to fail.
No doubt there is plenty of room for improvement, but the doomsday talk is completely out of proportion.
Which economy is more productive - Germany or the US? It seems the answer would be clear, but it's not.

The mood in Germany is so deeply negative, even aggressively pessimistic, that I thought we had fallen behind by a lot. But here are the facts - they surprised me as well:

Germany expects covert Russian operations to strike energy and defense systems first — not missiles. A secret military plan says these hybrid threats aim to disrupt NATO logistics and probe weak spots before any direct confrontation.

Indeed, Steve Witkoff is an example of sparkling stupidity. He is akin to a 17-year old who wants to join the mafia: fascinated by power, in love with the Boss, completely unhindered by any semblance of morality, and disturbingly excited and happy to be part of a cruel and powerful adventure.
I have always thought that as far as envoys go, Rick Grennell's unpreparedness, total lack of diplomatic skills and general idiotism would be near-impossible to outdo, but somehow Steve Witkoff didn't only manage to pull off this remarkable feat; he seems to be in a whole different class.
