A brief thread on the origin of “balls to the wall.” But you can still do it with your testicles if you want.
So military aircraft from the 1930s on tended to have very powerful engines which, however, if run at maximum power for an extended length of time, tended to do things like explode, not generally conducive to survival. So compromises were made.
