Liberal Christians please take back the religion
FWIW, Budde told me she was initially more concerned about people criticizing her for taking a pleading tone — i.e., not challenging Trump more defiantly.

But I think folks underestimated the optics, or how some conservatives react to liberal Christians. religionnews.com/2025/01/22/a...

Def frustrating that the Kpop community is not here
It's definitely a bit "hmm" that K-pop stans won't meaningfully try to migrate off Twitter likely due to clout reasons but will endlessly castigate anybody who does wrongthink about their fave or anything, really.

Ironically, my friends trust the AP and NYTimes. They just don’t subscribe to NYTimes. We just read the notifications and then get further news based on that by googling it. The older (white & conservative) boomers are the ones sending weird links for me.
If and when there’s an economic downturn I don’t think (young) people looking for sources of authority will turn to CNN or ABC News. Some will turn to whatever the 2020’s version of ZeroHedge is but in general we’ll need new sources of authority more relevant to young people.

Not a fan of Bob Dylan or Timothée but I was pleasantly surprised by ACU. Too many songs for my taste but a lot of Bob Dylan songs are now stuck in my head so maybe it wasn’t a bad choice by the filmmakers. One of the better biopics.

HBO Max surprisingly has a ton of older stuff that is a goldmine.
THE STING (1973) is now the oldest American narrative film on Netflix — one of only 5 released before 1980 on the largest subscription streaming service in the U.S.

It’s a shame Nosferatu is not in Oscars conversations. Lighting was fantastic. A dark movie where everything could be seen and darkness was used intentionally. Acting was also great by everyone involved.

Interstellar was great on IMAX. I was kinda taken out when Ann Hathaway suddenly started talking about love but the more I think of it, I’m warming up to the last third of the movie.

Nickel Boys opens in NY/LA today — the best film of the year, and one of the great American movies of the 21st century IMO.

i'll be doing another Q&A with RaMell Ross after the 6:30pm show at Lincoln Sq. tomorrow (Sat. 12/14). in the meantime, my review: www.indiewire.com/criticism/mo...

The thing about Mufasa is sometimes you can see Barry Jenkins' style come through, and that makes it all the more depressing that it's couched in a lackluster screenplay and tied to tech that will never not feel a little hollow.

Sad about Furiosa. It wasn’t a perfect film but I want more stories from the Mad Max world. Very visually interesting that deserves praise.

Finally listened to Taeyeon’s new album. Probably my least fave from her since debut. Just kinda boring and very stagnant. To. X and WDICY were similar but had much more diversity and interesting melodies. Hoping for better releases from her in 2025.
