On this day in 1984, #Dune as directed by #DavidLynch premiered in the US. It's one of my favourite films of all time.

Okay, the crowd going nuts like someone just scored a touchdown at the Super Bowl all *through* the KDH performance is a hell of a thing to see hear/see:

The latest If Books Could Kill podcast episode covers a book so terrible Peter dropped out partway through with a migraine and left a Deez Nutz setup hanging. 🤣 @ifbookspod.bsky.social
I think the clearest sign that Peter was having a hard time in the first half of the episode is that at 23:37 Michael says "when you look at the !Kung San, they're mostly eating these nuts" and Peter just let it ride...

NEVER AGAIN GUYS!

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Ooh ooh I know this one! Find someone tall and soft and fall on them. (Or sit on the nearest butt-height surface such as a dumpster or roof depending)

As the resident Bluesky user and CPSC follower at your #July4th party, it is up to you to say stuff like, "That's not a good idea" and "Put that down" and even "The Consumer Product Safety Commission says someone dies doing that every year."

Let's celebrate safely and stay out of the ER, America!

A THOUGHT FOR TODAY: (From the A.Word.A.Day email list)

When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men in a society, over the course of time they create for themselves a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it. -Frédéric Bastiat (30 Jun 1801-1850)

“When your sweat is a marinade instead of a coolant” yes to this! Stay cool. Happy Summer Solstice!
*taps mic* Hi, there! I’ve lived all over the country, wet, dry, hot, cold, and high humidity will not only kill your ass dead faster than anything else, it will suuuuuck the entire time you’re dying. Your low resting heart rate won’t do shit when your sweat is a marinade instead of a coolant.

Repeating my helpful little mnemonic song from Twitter:

If he'll drive you to the criming, he's a Fed 👏👏
If he'll drive you to the criming, he's a Fed 👏👏
If you can't get there without him
And you don't know much about him
If he'll drive you to the criming, he's a Fed 👏👏
after another long day of browsing old court documents, i just want to remind everyone that if a stranger agrees to do something illegal with you and they keep asking you to say out loud what the illegal plan is, that’s because the officer is recording you.

"I have a flashlight on my phone."

That's for when it's 1:30AM and you're 9 episodes in with 2% battery and you realize you unplugged your charger so you're leaning over the bed looking for the power strip trying not to fall to your doom.

Please buy a real flashlight.

Please.
