Exxon & Chevron must be so relieved to not have to worry about all the trouble and expense that the East India Company used to have maintaining their own military.

Having taxpayer funded “Presidents” take care of it all for them, even doing the PR bit, makes their margins so much better.

Oh yes, kindergartens, those incubators of hate.

Imagine if the same approach was considered to address all forms of bigotry, or violence against women, or any of the issues that are genuinely rampant among the population.

As I understand today's discussion, we can stop an ISIS cell by policing the speaker list at writer's festivals and the BA syllabus at Unis. And by "stopping demonstrations." This is madness.

Sussan Ley out there fostering hate and division. The Liberal Party has not learned one lesson from its election loss. They only now appeal to extremists.

Using the “first they came for” lines is so fucking gross.

Also her team putting in “applause” is truly pathetic.

It really is astonishing. I’ve had more than one instance with Reiner where I’ve been like ‘no, it can’t possibly be the same guy’ and had to look it up. To have such a deep understanding of film that you can not only be THAT broad and THAT good, but convince the industry that you’re the right…
Rob Reiner: I'm going to make a coming of age drama, a fantasy adventure story, a romantic comedy, a psychological horror and then a courtroom drama.

Us: Across your entire career?

Reiner: In a 6 year period.

Us: That sounds-

Reiner: -Each one will be arguably the best movie in that genre.

www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/educati... Obscene salaries are fine if schools don't get public money. If they won't tell, gov can assume "independence", so no public money. If they are able to run a school well without subsidy & overpay leadership, they have enough. @janecaro.bsky.social
Private schools’ million-dollar principals
The government is yet to compel private schools to publish their principals’ salaries, despite concerns that taxpayers are supporting packages up to $1 million a year.

Australian politics’ rich vein of irony
Hilarious that we have a govt captured by fossil fuel companies and an opposition declaring they will not deliver on our legal obligations under the Paris Agreement and we are gunning to host the next COP meeting.
I'm on the ground here in Belem at COP30. Here is a quick video of part of the performance by Wiradjuri man Benjamin Thomson and Germaine Paulson gave after a press conference yesterday morning by civil society groups pressing the case for Australia to host the conference next year.
