Two young women, Christian asylum seekers from Iran with authorization to stay in the US, detained while on family trip
Via me and @alejacorazonhm.bsky.social: CBP posted a pic of two detained Iranians, saying, “No fun in the sun when you are unlawfully present.”

According to their Episcopal priest, they’re Christian converts seeking asylum, and deporting them may be a death sentence religionnews.com/2025/12/09/b...
Priest says sisters slated for deportation are Christians who could face persecution by Iran
WASHINGTON (RNS) — ‘We all feel a wound in our body of Christ, knowing what’s happening to them,’ said the Rev. Fran Gardner-Smith.

My child who is less into church and usually chooses not to attend, has agreed with great gusto to play the part of Herod in this year’s pageant. Win? Worry? Either way the whole family is now looking forward to the service a bit more.

I took the weekend off college stuff. It's going to be a hard week full of standing by my convictions and persisting in the face of naysayers. But after Thursday, I can focus on other things including my lovely, incredible students. We must remember the joy in the struggle. I know JOY.

2. This is an extremely small sample size in a house in Pompeii. And yet many headlines are universalizing in order to say ALL Roman slaves ate better than the freeborn. We know that this is absolutely not true.

Look at this Reuters headline:

The federal vaccine committee has voted to end the recommendation that all newborns be immunized at birth against hepatitis B.

This committee has zero credibility and the process for this vote was chaotic.

Today I learn that #Crustmus 🦀 lasts more than a day! Someone should have let me know before I used up two ancient crabs on day one. How long does this last any way? I have lots of crab control marks used to track dies at the Roman mint, this is from c. 76 BCE. numismatics.org/rrdp/id/rrc-...
