When you’re braced for an R&R or even rejection and you open the email to find accepted with minor revisions and many nice words. It is one of my first historiographical pieces in a while and my first on Dionysius.

Not what I was looking for, BUT... on ethnicity, diets, bodily forms, and enslavement this is most intriguing. The recommendation is in short to purchase a woman who can make an particular ethnic food, and that you will want her to be well fed herself (as a sign of her skill? as desirable body?)

Google scholar has a glitch in my record of publications that I find v v amusing. There is a proper entry for my 2021 book, but there is also a line attributing to 1945 with significant citations. If I was in a field that gave rat's ass about h-index scores, I'm guess this would be more upsetting.

Here I am skimming early 19th cent journals #ForFun before I board the plane and all of a sudden I find myself reading Latin instead of Italian. And ya, know. I kind of liked the switch up.

I resolve to start at least one letter:

Satis te laudare non possum

I didn't think this was a classics post until I noticed this detail from the NIH article.

This image with the text feels irresponsible. The plant they are next to is a YEW. While yew berry flesh is edible, if your teeth break the seed inside you are likely to become incredibly sick. Poisoning from the needles is also known. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

But google did help me find a similar story using the same image but with a different place and 'historical' context. I took a quick look at my searcg results for Lionel Vance and Baton Rouge and decided this also looked like BS 3/

I used Nexis Uni to review all news stories in the database using both place and people names in the story and then just also key words like human remains and wax. No news coverage exists. This didn't stop Google AI from telling me it was real. 2/

I'm hoping put @fakehistoryhunter.net on this case. It is so hard to prove a negative but I call BS on this click bait that is all over my socials... 1/

My beloved and I took some out-of-towners into the city and ended up doing slightly separate activities—reunited, he surprised me in the Lincoln tunnel with some (perfect) hefty gifts. Swooooooooon.

I've opened my email--NO steaming pile of horse sh!t lurks in my inbox. And, I had held the whole day empty for other potentially mandatory meetings--those are unnecessary. Combined this feels like a small Thursday miracle. I declare today a writing day. Putting up my out of office NOW.

I like how Victory looks like a small child leaping into the arms of her father (rather than the emperor Commodus).

It's a fantastic feeling to open an old slide deck and realize while the structure is sound, I now, years later, have so much more to share with students AND even better the state of our ancient knowledge has leapt forward.

Mr. LoLo. A 4 week old rescue being nursed back to health. My heart is melting. So hard to go to campus with out him, so hard to put him down to crochet him a better sweater. For all he’s rocking the dobby sock look.

This job is amazing because you get to work along side the incredible Roman Historian, Jessica Clarke. If you can safely moving to Florida, know that this department is a place with good colleagues where you can transform young lives and bring hope and vision.

Help me think through options. If I wanted to source a motorized wheel chair (or scooter) to help a individual remain in the workplace and navigate NYC and preserve human dignity and it wasn't covered by insurance, where to start? I can try to crowdsourcing funds, but don't want to start there.

Jefferson Health recently took over a massive regional health system. And, shock-beyond-shock the corporate move has now greatly reduced the number of health professional workers in the region. The headline should read:

Because of Unmet Profit Margins...
