Republics are already unusual, rare, beautiful things, historically speaking. A republic composed of some small sliver of every country, people, language and culture is an even more wondrous, special thing. And to have it have succeeded so remarkably.

To betray that...I have no words.

I just got a DM from someone that pirated my game.

They said (paraphrasing) that with hindsight the game was absolutely worth the price, and were asking my preferred avenue for them to buy it (Steam vs Itch).

I've gotten a lot of great DMs from players, but this one is probably my favorite.

Something I'm really grateful to have learned by doing a mythology podcast for 5 years is that the Heroes Journey/Monomyth is largely a fraud constructed by Joseph Campbell through cherry picking and misrepresenting different myths. Its more relevant to mediocre screenplays than actual mythology.

In the exurbs, at the kitchen table, I heard praise for LLMs & anecdotes of how good they are making people sound smart. I tried to interject with some experiences as an educator on coaching individuals to find their own voice. And the response: "but now one can learn from the computer!" Grim. 1/

I don’t mean to sound extreme, but I don’t think we should have torture camps for people with criminal records either.

graeco-roman magic predates christianity. so, it really bums me out when scholars write like magic is antecedent and derivative to christian miracle. if you really think about it, miracle is the derivative and antecedent category.

DOJ broke the law today by refusing to produce all the Epstein files. It also broke the law by redacting information other than to protect victims. Yet, the corporate media is acting that DOJ did us a huge favor.

I'm reading an art historical analysis by an undergraduate comparing medieval and roman 2D compositions through the lens of gender space. It is so good I want to weep. It should be a grad school term paper or a draft of a publication. I knew she was good, but this is fucking brilliant.
