This week’s astonishing artifact is an ancient Egyptian human-hair wig found in the tomb of a royal architect and his wife. 🏺🧪
Merit's wig: A 3,400-year-old Egyptian headpiece smoothed down with ancient homemade hair gel
Merit's head covering was made from real human hair and was buried with her in its own wooden cabinet.

Today seems like a good day to remember Rosalind Franklin (1920-1958), whose pioneering work in X-Ray diffraction led to the discovery of the structure of DNA – but only after one of her photos was stolen and shown to the men who would later win a Nobel Prize for the discovery (without citing her).
Witness History - Rosalind Franklin: DNA pioneer - BBC Sounds
The scientist produced an X-ray photograph in 1952, that helped show the structure of DNA

And this is different from phrenology, how exactly?

There's a Japanese clothing site called "Toga Virilis"* and it's really messing up my search results.

Some numbers: Roughly 12% of NYC's pop are Jewish.
If they made up 12% of the total 2mil voters for NYC mayor, that means 240k Jewish NYers voted, or roughly 25% of NY's total Jewish population - hardly a plurality given 33% of them went for Mamdani.

(Exit polls are not super reliable either so…🤷‍♀️)

I really try to keep my posting here to professional and prof-adjacent content (for my own mental health if nothing else) but as a NY-er who vividly remembers that day, I couldn't scroll past this without comment…

Once more, with feeling:

Jew hatred antedates modern constructions of wh*teness by literally thousands of years. It's cannot be understood or effectively countered solely in terms of contemporary racial politics.
It seems like it may have been a mistake to conceptualize antisemitism as a subset of white supremacy, when there is consensus among many people who are *and aren't* white supremacists that Jews are the cause of all problems.

It's been three hours and I'm still thinking about this:
"The role of the teacher is not to be replaced. That role will be transformed to focus on the social and emotional motivation side as opposed to the academic part. I believe we're going to get to a point where a billion children around the world will be able to take this type of education."

Doing some research for a school programme using the National Archives currency convertor - it shows historic buying power and the equivalent in £ today. Here's what I learned:

The cost of building St Paul's Cathedral in 1710 is the equivalent of £114,954,828 today. OR... < half the Trump Ballroom.

What moved the West away from social collectivism and rules of hospitality and towards greater individualism?

Protestantism? Enlightenment? Industrial Revolution? Capitalism? “Age of Exploration” type colonialism?

This is one of the very first things I point out in any “interfaith” work I do.
We regularly use the word "faith" as a synonym for "religion" in everyday language, without thinking about how this language reifies a Christian norm of what "religion" actually constitutes.
