This is called murder. This is killing ANYONE you want in a boat or a plane or coming to the US or anyone here and saying they were a drug smuggler. This is killing people with no charges, no evidence, no trial. This is murder.
Trump Claims the Power to Summarily Kill Suspected Drug Smugglers

The move to treat criminals as if they were wartime combatants escalated an administration pattern of using military force for law enforcement tasks at home and abroad.

I am starting to think the focus on forgiving Newsom for transphobia is an op to ignore his other very terrible policies, including his handling of homelessness, his unwillingness to support WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike, and more.

His anti-trans podcast circuit is bad and so is his record in CA.
Newsom would be a terrible candidate even if he weren't hyper-transphobic
He also vetoed the bill that would have allowed union workers to collect unemployment while on strike - *during* the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike.

Brad Lander has arrived at his election night party. "The ranked choice tabulations will take a few days, but this much is clear: We are sending Andrew Cuomo back to the suburbs," Lander said to applause. "With our help, Zohran Mamdani will be the Democratic nominee"

I think the Supreme Court decision fucking sucks and is illustrative of how deeply the US hates not just trans people, but children, and it ties VERY deeply into the politics of how we think about children's rights and bodies.

This thread from @nora.zone is a great articulation of this issue.
remember that these people oppose trans healthcare for children because giving children agency over their bodies makes it harder for them to get away with preying on them and they see themselves entitled to sexually abusing children

ICE just arrested Brad Lander, the NYC Comptroller and one of the leading candidates for Mayor, without grounds.

He was conducting routine immigration court work, escorting individuals from hearings.

He asked ICE for their warrant - well within his legal rights.

This is political intimidation.
Whoa! NYC mayoral candidate and current city Comptroller Brad Lander seemingly arrested at the NYC immigration court while attending to escort someone attending their hearing.
Lander just got detained by federal agents as he tried to escort a man out of the courtroom. Lander was taken in an elevator with masked agents, along with one member of his NYPD security detail.

Hi, this is Meg Barnette, Brad's wife.

While escorting a defendant out of immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza, Brad was taken by masked agents and detained by ICE.

This is still developing, and our team is monitoring the situation closely.

For the record, it does in fact look like the judge is innocent as more facts come out.

Your knee-jerk reaction should always be “ICE/DOJ are lying” in a case like this, because they are almost always lying.

Through all his troubles, neither the DOJ/FBI nor any state authorities ever subjected Donald Trump to arrest, preferring in every case to proceed by indictment and voluntary surrender. It’s notable that a sitting judge and pillar of the Milwaukee community was not extended the same courtesy.

when the law says you cannot exist, the truest and best weapon at your disposal is to defy it and survive regardless. In the face of meaningless cruelty, defiance is all there is, really. For as long as it takes.

If you care more about JFK assassination documents than the hundreds of Palestinians who have died in the last day (on top of the thousands more), you're a bad person.

It is human trafficking.
Totally agree with this. Flying a person to a third country that they may never have been to, directly into a prison where they are going to be forced to do hard labor, is not a deportation; it's something else entirely.
@washingtonpost.com They were not DEPORTED. Deported means sending them back to their country of origin. These people were sent to a maximum security prison in El Salvador, without any due process or any analysis as to whether they feared harm in El Salvador!

Things are moving quickly, but it looks like these Sen's especially need calls from *constituents* to vote NO on cloture:

Angus King (ME)
Amy Klobuchar (MN)
Jacky Rosen (NV)
Brian Schatz (HI)
Maggie Hassan (NH)
Jeanne Shaheen (NH)
Gary Peters (MI)

Capitol switchboard is 202-224-3121.
This is NEW today. AOC sent this 11 am. Friday morning.

Yes, your calls are still needed. The vote is in the early afternoon. There is still time!
KEEP CALLING. PEEL OFF ALL DEM SENATORS YOU CAN.

☎️: (202) 224-3121

Tell them to vote NO on Cloture and NO on CR. Vote is pushed to after 1:15ish for now. Situation is fluid.

The only public YES votes are Schumer and Fetterman. They need 7-8 total. KEEP CALLING.

Call retiring Senators too!
