every person getting offended by the idea of greater safety measures for cars is exactly three seconds away from telling you it's actually okay to kill people
Urbanists will talk about how cars are a machine that makes you selfish and crazy, and I know it’s easy to roll your eyes at that but if you give drivers the ability to comment they will say “yes I am selfish and crazy”
I care about the harm to my sanity and schedule for being forced to go artificially slow

strangers are fighting to the death in my menchies over this pretty innocuous take and slinging devastating counterarguments like “what if I had to run away from a murderer” and “I like speeding”
one of my longstanding takes is that car manufacturers should be forced to install mandatory speed limiters in every new vehicle and people react to that like I'm advocating to strip them of their right to free speech

where that "the core of progressivism is doing nothing" tweet when you need it?
The California ACLU is staunchly opposed to the ignition interlock device program and is a big reason that it has not been expanded. Despite the fact that California heavily subsidizes the cost for low-income drunk drivers, the ACLU says that the program is a form of "racialized wealth extraction."

word on the street is that johnny's is converting from a bar to a data center that could render a theoretically infinite number of hot dogs in Thomas-Davis's mouth
the bar owner in my neighborhood is still stroking out about his ANC rep (a minor elected position in DC that is basically a neighborhood advocate with no real power). he sent some sort of complaint to the mayor then closed his bar on a Friday night so he could rage post.

someone tell the California ACLU who is disproportionately more likely to be killed in traffic accidents including those involving people under the influence

Very important for people to ask Janeese and other mayoral hopefuls how they'll weigh the value of a parking space versus the value of a human life. Even better if they frame the question as a contrast with Bowser's absolute failure on Vision Zero.
Another win for parking on Kansas NW. Thank goodness we prioritize storing private cars in public space over safety. 🙄 app.box.com/s/3947xbs2yc...

Hillary Clinton blames TikTok and “totally made up” videos for young people’s views on Israel and Palestine.

She says social media influenced “not just the usual suspects” but also “young Jewish Americans who don’t know the history and don’t understand.”

my defense secretary told me big nude guys keep shooting his troops so I asked how many troops he has and he said he just deploys more afterwards so I said it sounds like he's just feeding troops to nude gunmen and then he started crying
News via Reuters

“U.S. Defense Secretary Hegseth says Trump has asked for 500 additional troops to be deployed to D.C. after the shooting.”

go ahead and destroy the Bozzutos of the world, but note that Robinson says we need radically democratic preservationism, not radically democratic home-building. even in his dreams he's stopping homes from getting built, not building a democratic society
Making sure developers don’t make a dime is more important than building homes for people

hakeem is the perfect democrat. if the shutdown was on he would support it, and now that the shutdown is over he supports that. he believes in nothing but the status quo
CNN: Was the shutdown worth it?

HAKEEM JEFFRIES: We have waged a battle on behalf of the American people.

CNN: But you didn't get what you want.

JEFFRIES: At the end of the day, the fight lives on.

the 2009 dem supermajority trifecta proved that you can give dems total power in DC and they still won't make even "incremental" progress on their issues. who believes this stuff?
KAMALA HARRIS: "It is never satisfying to say we've gotta be incremental - and I'm not advocating incrementalism - but until we win back majorities in the Senate and the House and take the White House, that may just be where we are."

that said... a whole lot of drivers ARE murderous assholes, either through aggressiveness or negligence or both, and the proportion of drivers who are like this is uncomfortably high
It's not that every individual driver is a murderous asshole (I'm not!). It's that car dependency as a whole is dangerous. It's that cars are deadly when they hit people. It's that our society prioritizes drivers above all else. It's about a system that is dangerous for anyone not in a car.

Either this ends with some sort of truth and reconciliation process where a very large number of people go to prison for a very long time or we will take a short pause and then start doing it again, but worse.
A Naperville man was hauled away by federal immigration agents Thursday morning as his two sons watched, the older boy begging them not to hurt his father and tearfully asking for a chance to speak to him before they left.

random suburbanites in their fucking PJs may not like seeing their neighbors get abducted, whereas the vast majority of america's political, social, and civil elites either don't care or actively enjoy it
its remarkable to see random suburbanites in their fucking PJs have more courage than the vast majority of america's political, social, and civil elites

podjons drawing a firm and consistent line: they're okay with genocide, whether it's gaza or the holocaust. honestly it would be hypocritical for them to be bothered by the totenkopf thing
Seriously, why are you insulting people's intelligence like this. There is very obviously a massive excluded middle between "bland Ivy League corporate automaton" and "still has large Nazi tattoo." There's nothing wrong with having found him appealing. He was! But it's over and this is silly
