That's understandable. Sopranos is a high peak in prestige tv, essentially the start of a golden era of television. It's hard to meaningfully compare it to something as pedestrian and schlocky as GOT, for example.

"event" shows started in the 1970s and continued on until the 90s, peaking with Sopranos. They've greatly declined since then - witness the muted reaction to the end of Game of Thrones, for example. I wouldn't say that GOT killed the "event show" phenomenon, but it certainly contributed
