UPDATE: latest round of ballots counted shows that Katie Wilson now leads Bruce Harrell in the Seattle Mayor's race by 1,346 votes.
That's currently within the 2,000 vote margin to trigger an automatic machine recount. Though there are ~1,000 ballots with signature issues that could change that.

This is a subterfuge. Eight senators not facing reelection next year were chosen to vote with Republicans. There was never any intention of being in opposition.

Any Democratic senator, at any moment, could've derailed this by calling for Schumer's replacement and casting their colleagues as MAGA collaborators, thereby shifting the Overton window. But they're all in on it. This was always a team effort.
