I buy books I don't want to read.

I live with an excellent dog called Ruby.

Mostly here to read agreeable things.

Not here to date.

Hey, just a quiet reminder: it’s not true that people get more conservative as they age. *Populations* get more conservative as they age because poor and marginalized people die sooner.

Seniors Are More Conservative Because the Poor Die Off
Sometimes older voters aren’t just naturally more conservative. It’s just that wealthier and whiter people tend to live longer and healthier lives.

Very niche tweet but Dan has reminded me how much it really annoys me when in film and TV at train stations they claim that a train goes somewhere that it definitely doesn’t go to from that station

OK- here we go. Sorry for the delay, I was not prepared for the exertion required in the thrill-a-minute adventure that is… CACAO FERMENTATION.

Yes, this will actually take 5 days. After that two days of drying. I’m not making this up. Nothing happens. Really. You’ll see.

Anyway, off we go!

According to Flemish folktales, bloodthirsty birds flew through the cold air during the winter months. In one tale, someone whistled at the birds and one of the feathered fiends shouted: I will torture you until the last drop of blood in your heart has disappeared.

around 42% of all marriages end in divorce. that is a very high regret rate for people committing to life changing decisions. the state should do something, ultimately we should ban marriage entirely

Hey, instead of accepting the challenge of posting 20 fucking books that have influenced the person none of us have learned to love, why not soak the books in molasses and dark spirit for a month, then find a quiet corner and eat them all, quietly.

Honestly, I couldn't care less in this case. It seems like Hunter has been relatively forthright about his wrongdoing (which was fairly minor) and he's living a better life now. This is what pardons are for. We have to change our attitude toward the carceral system. Revenge isn't justice.

If there is a vote for bluesky comment of the year, this has my vote.
I don't love it either, but I'm not sure how you tell a man that he should let his only surviving son rot in prison to respect norms, institutions, and the rule of law, when the country you devoted your life to serving just pretty comprehensively voted they don't give a shit about any of that.

Meet Louise of Prussia. Politician, diplomat and beloved queen and wife. Rode into battle while pregnant. One of my heroes.

Famously described by Napoleon famously as "the only real man in Prussia"

Gonna ask you to think a bit about that in a sec, but first you need to know about her life. /1 🧵
