The internet is the worst thing that ever happened to videogames.
Reappearing here briefly to announce that I just posted my 200th review at playcritically.com for a little game from last year called The Plucky Squire.

The Plucky Squire Review
The Plucky Squire has an incredible premise that feels underutilized by its small final product.

I'm uninstalling Bluesky from my phone for my own emotional health.

If I never return, I wish old friends and new all the best in whatever comes next.

The Red Mirage sucks. Wisconsin is not giving me good feelings. I know I should stop but I can't look away. I envy the drooling morons who are only vaguely aware there's an election tonight.

I am so surprised at how people are freaking out about a result announcement pattern that is exactly the same as it usually is. Big cities take longer. The west coast is still voting. Turn off cable news.

REMINDER: You shouldn't avoid the NYT election needle because it's behind a picket line (it isn't). You should avoid the NYT election needle because it conveys zero useful information while inflating your anxiety!
NYT Games and Cooking are BEHIND THE PICKET LINE. Please don’t play or engage with Games or Cooking content while the strike lasts!

News coverage — including election coverage — is NOT behind the picket line. It’s okay to read and share that, though the site and app may very well have problems.

Happy #indie review day, this week's review is for Europa.

Prompted by his deceased father's journal, Zee travels across the terraformed surface of Jupiter's moon Europa. A device that lets him rocket into the sky and glide back to the ground adds whimsy which is defied by a misanthropic backstory.
Europa Review
Europa’s whimsical movement and watercolor art style contrasts poorly with its dreary and misanthropic backstory.

Happy bonus #indie review day, I finished this Dungeons of Hinterberg review a few weeks ago but couldn't find time to post it.

Luisa goes to Hinterberg for a vacation filled with magic, monsters, and dungeon crawling. The setting and puzzles are wonderful. The movement and combat is mediocre.
Dungeons of Hinterberg Review
Looking backwards at Dungeons of Hinterberg, I will forget its weaknesses. When I am playing, they are impossible to ignore.

Okay, I popped into a results livestream to see if this was gonna be an election where we have the results before the west coast sits down for dinner. It's not gonna be one of those elections. So I'll try to concentrate on something else this evening.

5pm on the west coast, let's see if I can get any writing done tonight (narrator: he got no writing done that night).

It's gonna bug me for years that Echoes of Wisdom has main quests called "A Rift in the Faron Wetlands," "The Rift on Eldin Volcano," and "Rift on Holy Mount Lanayru." That's the kind of thing I would have refused to let go back in my copyediting days.

I know Hell's Kitchen has really turned itself around since the days of Raj and Elise but it still feels weird to start a new season and see that all of the contestants are competent.

I had this problem in Oregon when I voted for Kerry, twenty years ago.

This is a known problem. The lack of a solution is because it's being exploited to suppress votes.
Cool system!!!!!!

Oh wait this strike means we won't have the fucking election needle? Bless these folks, they should go on strike in November every four years.
It’s not looking so good for the Needle - a quick report from the @nytguildtech.bsky.social picket line, where unit members are chanting “If you want a needle, we need a deal!” and breaking down how, exactly, their labor powers the NYT Election Night mainstay:

They're all subconsciously aware that they can only rally the support of mediocrities, but they can never articulate and internalize that feeling, hence the constant railing against "elites" despite most of them coming from the wealthy and privileged classes.
