Mayor Elect Her leads St. Paul through history with hope
State Representative Kaohly Her stands as St. Paul’s mayor after beating out incumbent Mayor Melvin Carter, despite only jumping into the race in August. The Nov. 4 election marked a historic victory...

It’s very odd that we entrust the clearing of public sidewalks (which are part of our transportation network) to private property owners & businesses.

We get results like this business that cleared only their walkways & left the rest of the sidewalk covered in snow.

One of the themes of our new police state is the sheer lack of professionalism. They can't do the basics, and when challenged, double down. A dysfunctional organizational culture deeply suspicious of the society they are tasked with controlling.
bsky.app/profile/radl...
They misidentified the intern. The judge told them they had misidentified the intern. But instead of double checking, they took that as an affront to their authority. So they surrounded the judge's car and threatened to smash the windows to get to the intern.

They had misidentified the intern.
The part where they threatened to break a judge’s car windows should be a bigger story … they feel comfortable treating judges this way, which means they are being told that they can do literally anything to nearly everyone

Rundown of today’s ICE raids in Midway.

Thanks to all who were able to record and to protest.
Couple dozen people total (FBI, HSI, DEA) on site surrounding Bro-Tex at Hamden and Territorial.

“Just executing a search warrant” was the answer given on site.

Following up on this. This remains a ‘cave is minutes or hours away’ situation. If you want to impact how this plays out you need to contact senators literally now. I want to add additional points of context. What I’m relaying is what I’ve picked up from highly reliable sources.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

“Every bit of this is disheartening on its face. But it’s actually worse than any first-blush irritation, that familiar annoyance that comes from encountering still another textbook exercise in witless triangulation. “

This is indeed a fantastic essay.

i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist
the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.

The only truly devestating interview you could do with Trump is a series of factual questions asked by someone with no affect: “How does a bill become a law?” “Name three countries where American troops are stationed.” “Will you be raising tariffs on Wakanda?”

Very useful thread, carefully unpacking a recent attack ad in Saint Paul's mayoral campaign. The ad sucked even before Tom Basgen walks us through all of its mischaracterizations and errors. Now I know that it sucks AND it's stupid.
St. Paul! We've finally got an annoying Attack PAC in our election called Saint Paul Future Forward working for Rep Kaohly Her's mayoral bid. Names attached are Haley Cobb and Chris Haas who I vaguely remember from my time in Walz-land and state stuff.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.
