Thread - tl;dr Social Security getting ready to have problems beyond their control, and even leadership didn't know about it...
Some 💩 went down at SSA today, and it’s not great so let’s talk about it 🫠 TLDR version: effective 7/3, 40-50% of the CSR (customer service rep) staff will be reassigned to answering the national 1800#. This decision was made without input from any regional, area, or teleservice center leadership.

I do wonder what it costs financially to have an army occupying Los Angeles and why I keep being told the government doesn't have enough money to pay for public schools to buy supplies for their teachers

The research field: "*awkward chuckle* I'm in danger"

But seriously, very large NO, I do not want DOGE reviewing research grants. We have peer review for a reason!
Replacing peer review with "some coked up 19 year old libertarian" review does not strike me as a positive development. Imo.
Hearing now that every National Science Foundation grant is having to go through a new “DOGE review”. So existing grants and long term science and technology research having to undergo review by one of Elon’s interns. Huge percentage not passing their muster.

Every book published in the United States is sent to the Library of Congress. Also, if you are under 16 you cannot use the reading room or order books.
Reporter: The president fired the Librarian of Congress. Why?

Leavitt: There were quite concerning things she had done at the Library of Congress in the pursuit of DEI and putting inappropriate books in the library for children.

If you are also worried about tariffs and supply chain shortages, and have the financial means to prepare, here is what I have stocked up on and plan to buy soon, plus what I would get if I had kids, a car or a larger home, based on reporting I've read or done myself in the last several months (🧵):

Dad always loved to tell me when I was a kid that rich people will spend a thousand dollars for a machine that’ll wipe their ass for them (or pitch a tent, or whatever we were up to at the I’m time) but when it breaks they don’t know how to fix the machine OR wipe their ass
This may genuinely be one of the most devastating things I've seen about a tech CEO in the mainstream media. Amazing.

Where did Pope Francis go wrong with America's right-wing Catholic bloggers? For one thing, his celibacy was voluntary.
