Richer than Elon Musk: unlike him, I have enough.

I propose a general hunger-strike-with-donations in response to the Trump administration using hunger as a political weapon. That's a weapon we can fight back with. If this resonates at all, please share.

When the broad consensus is that an event – like the Senators ending the shutdown – is a simple black-and-white matter, it’s good policy to read someone who can tease out the complexities. @hcrichardson.bsky.social is reliably good at that.

Last night, the Senate advanced a measure to end the government shutdown, which at 41 days today is the longest in U.S.

This seems like the most straightforward and also basically accurate message.
instead of saying this was good strategy, maybe senate dems should say: "the republicans were going to kill people by starving them to death, and because we aren't monsters, we decided to let this fight go. We'll keep fighting. Stop electing monsters."

Mine is slightly more than tripling, with my deductible increasing by $1000 and maximum out-of-pocket maximum raised by $1500 (to almost $10k).
I really have to weigh my options going forward. Won't be eligible for Medicare for 2 more years - if it's still solvent by then.

Listen Kaine, Hassan, King, Cortez-Masto, Durbin, Shaheen, Rosen, and Fetterman. You're NOT gonna take away my 2025 election joy. We voted in that election for folks to FIGHT for us. That doesn't include YOU.

YOU are what we voted AGAINST last Tuesday. So I'm gonna hang on to that.

It's appalling that we as a country are stupid enough to make it profitable to advertise BS like this.

In an emotional excerpt from his new book, Sen. John Fetterman said he should have dropped out of his 2022 senatorial race while severely battling depression after his stroke.

This was a good read.

Btw, did you know that after Joyce Carol Oates posted this Elon responded that she's a liar and then he immediately began going under film posts and replying "Great movie".

I'm not even joking. 😂
Found the tweet that Joyce Carol Oates bodied Elon Musk with and it's so beautiful in its eloquent, simple take down. So much so he's crashing out trying to prove he reads books now. Put this in the Louvre.

I have come to believe this as well. The list is too strange. I don’t think a majority wanted to cave, but many more than the 8.
I think that these 8 Senators are falling on the sword for Schumer and other Senators who wanted the shutdown to end. This allows the majority of Senators to save face; and only retiring or not up for reelection Senators take the heat.

It’s a ruse.

The GOP bragged they’d never negotiate — that they didn’t need Democrats.

Then they shut down the government, threw parties at Mar-a-Lago, and kept Congress on vacation while Americans missed paychecks.

Polls were turning on them.

Across the world we see rich and powerful people getting the kid glove treatment instead of being held to higher standards by the courts, and we begin to understand how the French Revolution finally resorted to guillotines.
Nicolas Sarkozy will walk out of prison later today after three weeks behind bars following an appeals court approving the former French leader’s request for release.

Is the shutdown over? Not yet.
Tonight’s vote was only step 1 of 5.
There’s still another 60-vote hurdle, amendments, AND then the House.
Pressure matters right now—especially on Kaine, Rosen, Hassan, Shaheen.
Stay loud.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

The original Dem demands were:
1) Permanent ACA subsidies
2) Medicaid funding restored
3) No more blank checks for the regime (rescission)

They dropped Medicaid immediately. Went silent on rescission. Cut back to 1 year of subsidies on Friday. And surrendered today.

The Senate Democrats!

8 Dem senators just made the tripling of ACA costs a bipartisan crime against the American people.

What a craven thing to do to voters who gave the Dems overwhelming support 5 days ago. It’s betrayal, nothing less.
Tonight was a very bad night.

Call your senators.

NOW.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.
