Everything that makes Aotearoa New Zealand unique is related to Māori culture. Welcome to the country, that's a pōwhiri. We are gonna thrash you at sport, that's a haka. Traditional meals, that's a hāngī. Matariki that's our New Year

If you don't like Māori stuff maybe you're in the wrong country?

#nzpol Sometimes a policy is so stupid it makes you question the very fabric of reality. Decisions so fabulously, almost wantonly dumb, you wonder if we actually live in a simulation. Welcome to the world of removing Jobseeker Support for 18 & 19-year-olds. craigrenney.substack.com/p/a-small-wr...
A small wrinkle in the Jobseeker policy
The government’s recent changes to benefits feel like this: the house is on fire, and this policy is them turning off the smoke alarm and saying it’s fixed

In the UK, the clueless Tory Govt tried to cut spending from 2011 to reduce debt. That backfired - economists often miss that Govt spending adds to the tax base. This created the conditions for the rise of the far right. But, that's another story (it's where we're heading) . (Ends)

I had the privilege of having breakfast today with one of Titokowaru’s descendants, a highly respected and renowned rangatira.
He talked about his tīpuna and his decisive victory over Von Tempsky in September 7 1868.
Our past is also our future. Today it felt so far away and yet right at hand.

Consider bringing that energy to other civil society organisations, groups like Voices for Freedom are also trying to take advantage of low participation to push their agenda

Politics can be complex, but every so often it’s pretty easy to tell which side of history you’re on. For example, if you require the police to arrest elderly ladies for peacefully protesting against genocide, that’ll probably be the wrong side.

Rather, it represents a grassroots response from Pākehā & Māori alike who reject their racism, capitalism, & naked attempts to exploit our land & our people.

Primary Recommendation: Reject the Bill Entirely

The fundamental flaws in the Bill's approach cannot be resolved through amendments, as the underlying principles framework creates irreconcilable tensions with democratic governance, environmental protection, and social equity.

I will forever be haunted by this footage.

Trawling has only been filmed underwater a few times in documentary history, and never with such clarity.

What’s so heart-rending about these shots is watching how the animals don’t just get swept up — they swim for their lives.
